Résumé:
In the last ten years, the Dutch photographer Erik van der Weijde has been responsible for over fifty publications: these include not only slim photozines and simply produced brochures but also voluminous cloth-bound books — many of them distributed via his own publishing house 4478ZINE. This Is Not My Book provides for the first time an overview of his work, which constitutes one of the most important artistic positions at the interface between photography and independent publishing. The book uses large-format representations to show the lines of connection between the individual publications. It also contains van der Weijde’s 4478ZINE publishing manifesto and other texts as well as five conversations with the publishers Anne König and Jan Wenzel. This Is Not My Book indicates a full stop, an act of punctuation set down by the author with his published work.

Résumé:
Part aphorism and part manifesto, this book by Canadian architect Reza Aliabadi (RZLBD) references his ideas and thoughts about space. He suggests ‘the empty room’ as the very essence of architecture, and ‘the spatial experience’ as its highest mandate. Reza revisits architecture –not as the walls that enclose the space– but rather the space in-between the walls. What he calls an “anti-architecture” of invisible voids. As Kahn always said: “Architecture comes from the making of a room”. This book starts with this, the very desire to dwell in a space in its most basic form — a room. Through short passages and aphorisms, this text revisits space as the only protagonist, the very foundation, and the sole essence of architecture. It affects your perception of space, it makes you to look at architecture differently — most likely to see the invisible.

Résumé:
On the rocky coast of the Côte d'Azur perches a crisp, white modern home, elongated and compact, cryptically called ''E.1027''. The Anglo-Irish designer Eileen Gray (1878–1976) bought the site, paid for the construction and designed the building (with the assistance of her close friend, Jean Badovici, to whom Gray gave the site, building and contents). It was Gray's first foray into architecture, and as such it was a manifesto. For Gray, the whole building—the structure, its materials, the color scheme, the windows, the hardware, the fittings, the furniture—was an experiment with new concepts of spatial relations, an attempt to create an architecture of lightness and freedom. This new publication finally places this key example of modern architecture in its rightful position in history, contextualizing the structure with essays, reproductions of archival material, photographs and numerous scale drawings.

Résumé:
Antonin Artaud's journey to Ireland in 1937 marked an extraordinary—and apocalyptic—turning point in his life and career. After publishing the manifesto ''The New Revelations of Being'' about the 'catastrophic immediate-future,' Artaud abruptly left Paris for Ireland, remaining there for six weeks without money. Artaud was eventually arrested as an undesirable alien, beaten by the police, and summarily deported back to France. On his return, he spent nine years in asylums, remaining there through the entire span of World War II. During his fateful journey, Artaud wrote letters to friends in Paris which included several 'magic spells,' intended to curse his enemies and protect his friends from the city's forthcoming incineration and the Antichrist's appearance. This book collects all of Artaud's surviving correspondence from his time in Ireland, as well as photographs of the locations he traveled through.

Résumé:
Key works by today’s leading female architects, with reflections on their craft and design ethos Despite the number of women who have shaped the discipline, female architects still frequently struggle to receive the recognition their work deserves. This volume serves as a manifesto for the great achievements of contemporary female architects the world over, paying tribute to their experiences as artists and designers as well as women in a male-dominated field. ''Women in architecture'' profiles 36 architects working today, detailing their personal creative philosophies through examples of their projects. In addition to its examination of the current state of architecture, this volume also explores works by a number of women who served as pioneering figures of the craft, seeking to expose and eventually dismantle the structural discrimination against women architects both inside and outside of the field.

Résumé:
Recognizing the dire threats of climate collapse and mass extinction, the global initiative Bauhaus Earth convened a team of scientists, architects, spatial planners, and policymakers from around the world to author a manifesto. ''Toward Re-Entanglement: A Charter for the City and the Earth'' is a call for radical transformation. It challenges all those with a role in the conception, production, operation, and governance of the building sector to address the systemic ecological, climatic, and social impacts incurred by its activities. Twelve principles of "re-entanglement" guide the redesign of the entire life cycle of the urban realm: the reforming and rematerializing of the physical artifacts that comprise it, the reconfiguring of the socioeconomic structures that underpin it, and the reengaging of the bioregions that might sustainably supply it. In this way, the unprecedented convergence of the environmental and social crises we are causing offers powerful opportunities for systemic change.

Résumé:
A masterpiece of 20th-century architecture designed by Robert Mallet-Stevens between 1929 and 1932, the Villa Cavrois had an eventful history before its restoration and opening to the public in 2015. The man who commissioned it, Paul Cavrois, a well-established industrialist from Northern France, wanted a residence large enough to house his family and servants. His meeting with Robert Mallet-Stevens was to make his project an object-manifesto, an ocean liner rising on the heights of Roubaix, in a striking contrast with the neighbouring traditional bourgeois houses. Mallet-Stevens mastered all aspects of the design: the silhouette and geometry of the villa; the simple, yet luxurious furniture, and the materials chosen specifically for each room – marble and precious woods in the reception areas and tiles in sober colours in the bathrooms and kitchen – the lighting fixtures, the heating and sound systems.

The Magic Box, carried out by Dominique Perrault Architecture, is more than a public sports facility. It is a whole conceptual, urbanistic and constructive manifesto through the insertion of a radically contemporary building in a sensitive environment, which has helped to regenerate the southern edge of the city of Madrid and to round off the urban banks of the Manzanares River. The book includes unpublished texts by Andreas Ruby (a didactic essay) and Hans Ulrich Ibrist (an exclusive interview). It also includes a technical dossier dedicated to the construction of the building highly illustrated with plans (mostly unpublished) and a graphic documentation that breaks down the details of the construction, difficulties, successes and context of the assignment. In addition, this monograph also provides information on the competitive submissions, and further texts that explain the concept behind the Magic Box and the reason for its success.

Résumé:
Since the beginning of the century, the field of architecture has fervently turned its attention to documenting the contemporary urban condition. Every city has been examined as a repository of architectural concepts, scrutinized as an urban manifesto, and recorded as a series of found objects. "The Ordinary" articulates a potential genealogy for this practice and for the genre of books derived from it. Organized around conversations with the authors of three seminal texts that document the city—Denise Scott Brown's "Learning from Las Vegas" (1972), Rem Koolhaas's "Delirious New York" (1978), and Yoshiharu Tsukamoto's "Made in Tokyo" (2001)—this volume traces the history of these "books on cities" by examining the material they recorded, the findings they established, the arguments they advanced, and the projects they promoted. These conversations also question the assumptions underlying this practice and whether in its ubiquity it still remains a space of opportunity.
