ove & Lightning: A Collection of Queer and Feminist Manifestos is a thematically ordered, inconclusive collection of queer, feminist and queer-feminist manifestos. Girls Like Us Magazine and author Sarah van Binsbergen have composed a publication showcasing the different forms a manifesto might have, from classical, activist formats to more poetic, associative texts. The manifestos highlighted in this book cross borders, forms and disciplines, refuse binary logics, transcend our concepts of time and space and surpass the neoliberal logic. Love & Lightning does not claim to be a complete anthology, but it rather aims to show the myriad of ways manifestos can be composed, and what their legacy until this day is. It presents manifestos from 1851 until now, divided into eleven chapters, introduced in their socio-historical and geographical contexts, with many from Asia, Africa, Latin-America. Not only does this publication give new insight in the style of the manifesto, it aims to emancipate the reader to propose their own revolution, whether big or small.

I had left New York for Beijing, where I lived on Xindong Lu, sometimes tutored English, and occasionally wrote a column called "Raw China" for Vice. The city embodied an almost too good to be true clichéd "otherness" with an overabundance of literally foreign colors, textures, shapes, and structures. Put another way, China, and Beijing in particular, is extremely photogenic. The title comes from a reference to the Forbidden City in the accompanying story "The First Bus of Beijing" about riding the No. 1 bus. It couldn’t be more appropriate, as Geomancy is a concept taken very seriously in China that means "the art of placing or arranging buildings or other sites auspiciously."

Tamiko Nishimura (Born in Tokyo, 1948) graduated from Tokyo College of Photography (now Tokyo Visual Arts) in 1969. She emerged as part of the vibrant Japanese avant-garde scene in the early 1970s. Over the years, her work—largely based on her own journeys and experiences in Japan and abroad—conveys both a personal and beautifully theatrical perspective on the world. Nishimura photographs in an instinctive and spontaneous way. Her visual language is poetic, spiritual, and deeply personal. While her stylistic approach to image-making, in contrasted black and white, often blurred, or grainy, is close to some of the artists associated with Provoke, her work is imbued with an introspective and haunting quality that evokes a unique and profound emotional dimension. Throughout her long and ongoing career, Nishimura has photographed women with a distinct attentiveness. The closeup of a woman’s face, her hair brushed by the wind; a woman energetically walking down the street with her grocery basket, her head turned away from the camera; the back of two women walking down a street; a girl reading on a sofa with a magazine resting on her knees; or the intimate portraits of her childhood friend. Depuis son ouverture en 1974, l'École de design mène le travail engagé d'établir une école soucieuse de sa communauté, une école ouverte sur le monde et qui cherche, depuis ses tous premiers jours, à prendre position et à inscrire sa pertinence à travers des pratiques innovantes. Cette première effervescence est demeurée celle des 50 années qui ont suivi: l'ouverture de la Galerie de design en 1981, la première édition de Design international en 1982, la construction du Pavillon de design en 1995, la création de trois diplômes spécialisés dans les années 2000 et l'ouverture du programme de maîtrise en 2012, sont quelques-uns des jalons de cette grande activité. Cette publication donne suite à l'exposition PARCOURS présentée au Centre de design à l'automne 2024 pour célébrer le 50e anniversaire de l'École de design de l'UQAM. Les archives de cinq décennies de création ont été fouillées pour mettre en relation des projets étudiants et des réalisations professionnelles de designers accomplis dans divers champs de pratique. Cette première effervescence est demeurée celle des 50 années qui ont suivi: l'ouverture de la Galerie de design en 1981, la première édition de Design international en 1982, la construction du Pavillon de design en 1995, la création de trois diplômes spécialisés dans les années 2000 et l'ouverture du programme de maîtrise en 2012, sont quelques-uns des jalons de cette grande activité. Cette publication donne suite à l'exposition PARCOURS présentée au Centre de design à l'automne 2024 pour célébrer le 50e anniversaire de l'École de design de l'UQAM. Les archives de cinq décennies de création ont été fouillées pour mettre en relation des projets étudiants et des réalisations professionnelles de designers accomplis dans divers champs de pratique. Cet inventaire éclectique illustre l’évolution et l’interconnectivité des différentes disciplines enseignées à l’École: design graphique, design industriel, architecture et design urbain, design de mode, transport, patrimoine et événement.
