Résumé:
'iheartblob' avails itself of a new visual vocabulary of architecture. Here designs are visualized not in the form of ground plans and sections. Instead, renderings, mixed-reality objects (which are depicted physically and in augmented reality) and animations are the media which reflect the legacy of the mathematician Lagrange. Visually, but also on the basis of short theoretical texts, the book facilitates new discussions about the contemporary theoretical and cultural framework – and thus also about the “crisis of philosophy” faced not only by architecture. While the theoretical framework here invokes the principles of object-oriented ontology, in a subsequent step it attempts to unravel the theoretical principles of postmodernity and poststructural formalism.

Résumé:
This is Höweler + Yoon’s second book. It highlights verification as an integral part of the design process and demonstrates it as a productive tool to test ideas and act on the world. For both disciplinary and contractual reasons, the instruments of design—drawings, models, and prototypes—operate on the world at a distance. This book features recent designs by Höweler + Yoon and also examines the discipline’s pressing questions, as they relate to verification, uncertainty, and agency, in a series of essays by Eric Höweler and J. Meejin Yoon on topics that include means and methods, the public realm, energy and environments, the construction detail, and social media. These themes are echoed in conversations with collaborators, historians, and theorists.

Résumé:
In a series of written exchanges, David Campany and Stanley Wolukau-Wanambwa consider the options for photography in resisting the oppressive orthodoxies of racial capital, conservative history, and neoliberal visual culture. How does the essential indeterminacy of photography square with the need to work out alternative practices? How is visibility achieved beyond the consensual categories of the mass media and the commodification of art? What models are there for the making and reception of photographic books and exhibitions that might cultivate an active spectatorship beyond boutique consumerism? These urgent questions and more are discussed in a spirit of speculation and possibility, in the light of signal events that have shaped the recent past.

Résumé:
Retrieving both the globalising branches and the overlooked cross-cultural roots of critical regionalism, this publication resituates the movement within the wider framework of debates around postmodern architecture, the diverse contexts from which it emerged, and the cultural media complex that conditioned its reception. In so doing, it explores the intersection of three areas of growing historical and theoretical interest: postmodernism, critical regionalism and globalisation. Based on more than 50 interviews and previously unpublished archival material from six countries, the book transgresses existing barriers to integrate sources in other languages into anglophone architectural scholarship. In so doing, it shows how the ‘periphery’ was not just a passive recipient, but also an active generator of architectural theory and practice.

Résumé:
In this uncompromising essay, Jonathan Crary presents the obvious but unsayable reality: our ''digital age'' is synonymous with the disastrous terminal stage of global capitalism and its financialisation of social existence, mass impoverishment, ecocide, and military terror. ''Scorched earth'' surveys the wrecking of a living world by the internet complex and its devastation of communities and their capacities for mutual support. This polemic by the author of 24/7 dismantles the presumption that social media could be an instrument of radical change and contends that the networks and platforms of transnational corporations are intrinsically incompatible with a habitable earth or with the human interdependence needed to build egalitarian post-capitalist forms of life.

Résumé:
Since the 2010s, the line between public and private, online and offline have increasingly become blurred by digitalization and social media. In contemporary art, digitality has assumed a new type of presence—no longer only as a virtual sphere of sociality, but increasingly as a technological interface that structures our embodied experiences. What is presented in an ''exhibitio''? And how should we write about the new types of post-digital images we are seeing (in them)? In ''Passing images: Art in the post-digital age,'' Marie France Rafael provides an attempt to write with art, rather than just about it. Rafael aims to retrace the living spirit of art and the procedural-performative experience of art in her writing.

Résumé:
This book is a bold interdisciplinary critique of claims regarding the free movement of goods, people, services, and capital throughout Europe. Ginette Verstraete interrogates European discourses on unlimited movement for everyone and a utopian unity-in-diversity in light of contemporary social practices, cultural theories, historical texts, media representations, and critical art projects. Arguing against the persistent myth of borderless travel, Verstraete shows the discourses on Europe to be caught in an unresolvable contradiction on a conceptual level and in deeply unsettling asymmetries on a performative level. She asks why the age-old notion of Europe as a borderless space of mobility goes hand-in-hand with the at times violent containment and displacement of people.

Résumé:
This book is about visual thinking. Exploring a terrain where words meet pictures and formulas meet figures, the book foregrounds diagrams as tools for blurring those boundaries to focus on the production of knowledge as process. It outlines a history of convergence among diverse streams of data in real-time: from eighteenth-century print media and the diagrammatic procedures in the pages of Diderot's Encyclopedia to the paintings of Jacques-Louis David and mathematical devices that reveal the unseen worlds of quantum physics. The culture of diagram broke with the certainties of eighteenth-century science to expand the range of human experience. Speaking across disciplines and discourses, Bender and Marrinan situate our modernity in a new and revealing light.

Résumé:
The first complete monograph on the work of Swiss graphic designer Max Huber, one of the most significant designers of the 20th century. Huber's work was consistently innovative, and by combining painting and photography with other graphic media, he remained avant-garde throughout his career, bringing the utopian vision of the modern masters to bear on corporate typography and identity design. Three essays cover Huber's entire career from the early 1940s, including his wide-ranging work in the fields of magazine, identity and exhibition design as well as expanding on his close links with a circle of brilliant artists, designers and intellectuals such as Josef Muller-Brockmann, Achille Castiglioni and Italo Calvino, among others.
