The project series documents the design and construction of the general services building for the Universidad de Extremadura. In 1999, Abalos & Herreros in collaboration with Fomento won first prize at a competition held for enterprises. The firm identified this project as number 117. “Giving the hard climatic conditions, the building is wrapped in an artificial and natural dual filter of adjustable lattices surrounded by a ring a trees (Ginkos Bilobas) […] On the roof, two turrets house relaxation rooms for the teaching staff, rooms that open onto a garden surrounded by a training track, thus creating an open-air area with views over the lowlands of the [River] Guadiana and the city” (ARCH270971). The project series documents the competition entry and infrastructure development of the northeast coast park (Parque litoral nord-est, Barcelona Forum 2004, Sant Adrià de Besòs) and adjoining recycling plant (Edificio de oficinas y planta integral de RSU) in Santa Adriá de Besòs, Barcelona, Spain. The firm identified this project as number 133. The competition was organized by the Barcelona City Council and was part of a larger plan to develop new infrastructure for Barcelona, as the Host City for the International Forum of Cultures held in 2004. A number of architects and firms were involved in other projects related to the infrastructure plan, like the South East Coastal Park & Auditoriums by the Foreign Office Architects (See AP171.S1.2000.D6). The park included several other features, like the design of urban furniture (Pep and Xurret benches, and a fence), an artificial mountain, a youth hostel, a small security building and a pier. Only the park, the artificial mountain and the benches were built. The firm arranged work for this project with the following numbers: 133-1, 133-2, 133-6 to 133-8, and 133-10. The CCA did not receive materials classified under numbers 133-9 and 133-11. The recycling plant includes, among other things, office space, an ecomuseum, and a garden. Project series documents Cornelia Hahn Oberlander’s project for the landscape design for Library Square, the new central branch of the Vancouver’s public library on West Georgia Street. Oberlander worked on this project in 1992-1995 with architect Moshe Safdie and architectural firm Downs/Archambault & Patners. Oberlander landscape design included a roof garden, planned to be accessible by the public, and terraces with integral planting of cascading roses of the southeast edge of the building. She was also consulted for the landscape for the street-level spaces: “Along the streets bordering the site, Oberlander selected tulip trees, except on W. Georgia Street where the city required maples.” [1] The project was completed in 1995. The project series contains sketches, design development drawings, including planting plans, landscape plans for the green roof and the plaza, working drawings, such as site plans, planting plans, irrigation plans, landscape sections and elevations, and drawings of the building used as reference. Project series documents Cornelia Hahn Oberlander’s project for the landscape design for Library Square, the new central branch of the Vancouver’s public library on West Georgia Street. Oberlander worked on this project in 1992-1995 with architect Moshe Safdie and architectural firm Downs/Archambault & Patners. Oberlander landscape design included a roof garden, planned to be accessible by the public, and terraces with integral planting of cascading roses of the southeast edge of the building. She was also consulted for the landscape for the street-level spaces: “Along the streets bordering the site, Oberlander selected tulip trees, except on W. Georgia Street where the city required maples.” [1] The project was completed in 1995. The project series contains sketches, design development drawings, including planting plans, landscape plans for the green roof and the plaza, working drawings, such as site plans, planting plans, irrigation plans, landscape sections and elevations, and drawings of the building used as reference. The project is also recorded through textual records, such as concept notes by Oberlander, research material, specifications, including landscape specifications, correspondence, including correspondence with architects, client and contractors, contract, financial documents, documents for plan selection, and press and articles on the project.
