Résumé:
This large-format monograph on the famed Japanese architect covers six years of theory and practice through an exhaustive look at over 60 projects, from large (V at Dundee, Sanlitum SOHO in Beijing) to small (Sake no Hana in London, Lake House). Kengo Kuma is known for achieving a new kind of transparency in architecture, and is not bound by using only traditional light materials. Included is his essay, Small Architecture, which gives valuable insight into his view that great disasters, not the progress of technology, have been architectures driving force throughout history, with the most recent example being the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011.

"Figure/Ground: A Design Conversation", is a collection of six dialogues on design between Scott Johnson and William Fain, the principals of Johnson Fain Partners of Los Angeles. Covering a broad range of topics, the conversations center on such themes as the globalization of architecture, the impact of the Internet, the issue of "big architecture" vs. urban design, and the role of historicism in design. Along the way, Johnson and Fain find inspiration in jazz improvisation, Noam Chomsky, Roman urbanism, passive solar heating in China, Catholic monasticism, and Native American spirituality. The dialogues are illustrated with photographs of recent work by the firm, including their plan for central Beijing, and the new Native American Center in Oklahoma City.

Résumé:
Never before have so many high-rises been built. Spectacular skyscrapers with landmark character are not only appearing in boom cities like Dubai and Beijing or in the USA — the high-rise is also experiencing a renaissance in Europe. No type of building generates stronger emotions, but differentiated debate on these tower blocks only began recently. It is no longer merely a question of how many meters tall, but of new qualities in the construction of high-rise buildings, e.g. energy efficiency, sustainability, and social, economic and ecological compatibility. The projects of the International Highrise Award 2008 demonstrate current developments and so present the full range of contemporary high-rise construction, from utilisation to site-specifics.

Résumé:
Founded in Los Angeles in 1998, GRAFT is a global architectural practice which now maintains branches in Berlin and Beijing. The international practice, which is involved in architectural, urban, and product design – as well as branding – is known for its experimental and interdisciplinary designs as well as for its strong social commitment. The publication will document only projects characteristic of this social responsibility – it portrays architecture as an active tool for driving, in a global context, the development of places worth living in. One key project is the Solar Kiosk developed in 2012, a high-output, solar-based unit which is already used by many communities in Sub-Saharan Africa to secure their power supply.

Résumé:
Architecture is not without the plastic play of light in the excavated space. On the basis of this simple and universal axiom, Dong Gong, founder of the Vector studio based in Beijing, has conducted a series of experiments since his debut in 2008, unscrupulously mixing languages of modernity with idiomatic expressions of a vernacular flavor, innovative materials and techniques. with craftsmanship and construction tradition. If contemporary is the one who establishes a "gap" with time, that is, they are able to operate in the present without being overwhelmed and subjected by it, Dong Gong, who in his architecture makes the past and the future interact, can define himself as an architect of contemporaneity.
