Résumé:
Following the calamitous events of 2011 in Japan, Fuminori Nousaku and Mio Tsuneyama began to look at the link between materials and energy related to daily life, such as household goods, homes, food, and waste. They sought ways to reinvent how we live, from dependence on infrastructure and industry to another relationship: off-grid homes that generate solar power, gardens that harness the power of microbes in the soil, shared homes in vacant buildings, and construction using discarded materials. The wildness that survives the city enjoys fluctuation and overcomes inconvenience. This book introduces the collectives involved in these activities along with practices and resources.

Résumé:
This book is about bodies. Presenting the work of Dutch performance artist Mariken Overdijk, it explores how bodies traverse the familiar surroundings of one’s home or move along the familiar routes of everyday life, but also the relation of bodies to public space. On another level, the book also addresses how artistic research recounts the experiments and experiences, collections and vistas gained by the researcher during the course of their work. It shows that any good (artistic) research also creates futures. Overdijk makes clear that artworks are not singular events, but each creates a possibility that, however minimal, changes lives forever. Foreword by Jeroen Boomgaard.

The texts accompanying this research are an essay by Francesco Messina and reflections by landscape designer Matteo Lacivita who starts from the naturalistic observation of colors to also talk about painting, music and other art forms that color really cannot do without.

Résumé:
Russian artist El Lissitzky’s work spans painting, photography, theatrical and exhibition design, architecture, graphic design, typography, and literature. He was active in the Jewish cultural renaissance, formed an artists’ collective with Kazimir Malevich, was a key figure in the dissemination of early Soviet art in Western Europe, and designed propaganda for the Stalin regime. With such a varied history and body of work, scholars have often struggled to identify the core principles that tied his diverse oeuvre together. With this book, Johnson presents a significant contribution to scholarship on this major artist, revealing new connections between Lissitzky’s work in architecture and visual art and bringing to light sources from largely unstudied Russian archives.

Résumé:
From the 1950s to the 1980s, the open-air playground was a social laboratory. Innovative, wacky, and educational playground designs emerged in European and American cities, as well as elsewhere around the world. Artists, landscape designers, architects, and activists sought to provide children with the best possible place to play, while also reimagining cities and communities as a whole. This expanded new edition revives the wealth of ideas of that period to inspire us today. It offers many previously unpublished images, numerous new portraits—especially of female protagonists of the time—as well as findings from the latest research on playground design.

Résumé:
Hermann Czech, born in 1936, is one of Austria’s most eminent and influential architects and theorists. This influence is based not only on his work as a designing architect; Czech is also widely admired for his writings on architectural theory and as the editor and translator of architectural history classics. This book is the long-awaited updated and expanded English edition of the only complete examination of Hermann Czech’s work to date. First published in German in 2018, it goes far beyond a mere presentation of an architecture practice’s buildings and projects. The first part traces what links Czech’s work to the approaches of Viennese modernism. The second part explores Czech’s biography and the trajectory of his career, analyzing the contemporary influences that shape his thinking and designs. The third part features selected buildings, unrealized projects, and Czech’s numerous references and underlying reflections. A complete index of his buildings, projects, and writings, an essay by Vienna-based philosopher Elisabeth Nemeth on the relationship between architecture and philosophy in Czech’s work, and an introduction by architectural historian Liane Lefaivre round off this volume.
