Résumé:
In "Democratic design – Space for cooperation, collaboration and compromise," Aedes explores how architecture, planning processes and public spaces can foster democratic engagement and social cohesion – both more urgent than ever in times of profound societal uncertainty. The programme consists of an exhibition, a series of four Lab Talks and a catalogue featuring contributions from practitioners in Berlin, Germany and across Europe, selected through an open call in collaboration with European architecture centres and through research conducted by the Aedes team. The presented projects amplify marginalised voices, encourage participation and inspire collective visions for the future. Dialogue and exchange are essential conditions for democracy, cultivating the ability to accept differing viewpoints and to compromise – the very foundations of democratic culture.

What if we were no longer allowed to build new structures? Questions like this — and many others — are raised in the exhibition "What If: A Change of Perspective by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB)." The DGNB is a non-profit association based in Stuttgart that has been advocating for future-oriented and responsible building for 18 years. With the DGNB Certification System, it has developed an internationally recognised planning and optimisation tool for assessing sustainable buildings and districts. The exhibition invites visitors to question conventional ways of thinking and to rediscover the essence of sustainable architecture: buildings and districts that offer people a good home, remain affordable, and provide design-driven answers to the climate crisis. A central narrative traces the evolution of sustainable building, accompanied by six thematic sections and the award-winning projects of the German Sustainability Award for Architecture.

Résumé:
Joanne Bourne has been in awe of flint as long as she can remember. It was all around her where she grew up in Kent: used for garden walls, to edge drives and weight dustbin lids, as well as to build pubs, churches, Roman villas and castles. For centuries it was the only building stone available. It is also magical. Made from the remains of plankton and sea sponges, it is second only in hardness to a diamond and can be used to make fire. Part of human development for three million years, it was used as a weapon to hunt and in war, and hung as protection against thunderbolts and fairies. In a deeply personal love letter to this extraordinary ‘biogenic’ rock, Bourne traces its geological, architectural and social history and invites us to roam with her in search of it on her beloved North Downs. Fusing science, poetry, history and a profound love of landscape, this is her heartfelt, thoroughly persuasive tribute to the stone she calls ‘an art project of the great divine’.

Video is everywhere. Since its debut as a consumer medium in the 1960s, video has shaped our opinions, our politics and our societies. On our phones and computer screens, walls and streets, it defines new spaces and experiences—spreading memes, lies, fervor, fact and fiction. In other words, video has transformed the world. Featuring works from the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, this illuminating exhibition catalog—MoMA’s first major publication on video art in nearly 30 years—explores the ways in which artists have both championed and questioned video’s promise, some hoping to create new networks of communication, democratic engagement and public participation, others protesting commercial and state control over information, vision and truth itself.

Résumé:
In this intimate archive, the contemporary Mexican photographer duo Lake Verea record their pilgrimages, made over the course of nearly two decades, to the house of Mexican architect Luis Barragán (1902–88). As devotees of the architect, the duo began photographing the modernist mecca in 2006, endeavoring to approach as closely as possible to Barragán's spirit. The artists sat in his chairs, opened his closets, listened in silence and kissed in the house's enchanted garden. Modern Barragán compiles the fruits of their reverent labor. The photographs capture the house across a myriad of atmospheric conditions—in daylight, under the light of the full moon, by streetlight and against stormy skies. Flash photography lends the house a spectral quality; rubbed with aluminum sheets, the walls reveal their hidden textures, evoking the hidden memories contained within the home.

Résumé:
"When I think of art I think of beauty. Beauty is the mystery of life," wrote Agnes Martin in 1989. Edited by Milly Glimcher, this handsomely produced volume collects writings by the artist centered around the theme of beauty, as well as a range of subjects related to her life and work, from the workings of nature and politics to the inspiration to be found in solitude and silence. Poetic and reflective, these texts range from compact insights, as with "Underside of the Leaf" and "Awareness of Perfection," to longer meditations, such as "The Current of the River of Life Moves Us" and "The Untroubled Mind." ''On Beauty'' also includes reproductions of paintings such as Blessings (2000) and Tranquillity (2001), among others, while the front and back covers are debossed with reproductions of Affection (2001) and Little Children Playing with Love (2001). By providing a window into the thoughts and feelings that moved her, this title is the perfect companion for anyone who admires Martin's intuitive approach to art. Canadian American artist Agnes Martin (1912–2004) was one of the most influential painters of her generation and left an enduring mark on the history of modern and contemporary art. Characterized by austere lines and grids superimposed upon grounds of muted color, her paintings elegantly negotiate the confines of structure, space, draftsmanship and the metaphysical. Their underlying ideologies can be found in the writings she composed over the course of her career.

Résumé:
Made in 1969 as an artist's book but never published, "Terminal boundaries" and "A natural water course diverted reduced or displaced" comprises two books in one-- a tête-bêche with two front covers that can be read from either side by turning the book upside down. This facsimile publication contains two related bodies of work from American conceptual artist Lawrence Weiner (1942–2012) represented as typewritten statements on paper that Weiner pasted to the pages of a small notebook. Distinct from his contemporaries associated with the Land Art movement, Weiner constructs his landscape interventions in language-the specific and/or general act and the location are stated-offering the reader/viewer the opportunity to consider each work's existence, to build it in their mind's eye.
