He quickly figured out exactly what he wanted to be when he grew up—an architect who designed skyscrapers that touched the clouds. I. M. Everyone wanted I. M. Pei to design their buildings. Though his plans weren’t always immediately popular, his legacy has endured, and his structures can still be seen all around the world, from the JFK Library and the East Building of the National Gallery of Art to the Louvre Pyramid. Koren’s insightful meditation is further distilled into eight rhetorical principles presented alognside 23 idiosyncratic paintings by artist Nathalie Du Pasquier which illustrate the volume. With a welcoming tone, ''Arranging Things'' offers an accessible strategy which can be used to analyse any arrangement. Back by popular demand, this new edition of ''Arranging Things'' presents Du Pasquier’s artistic works in a generous format in celebration of Koren’s visual journey through the heart of design philosophy. Arranging Things is not merely a popular book on design; it is a landmark text, a practical manifesto of aesthetic beauty, one for brightening and broadening the way we understand and arrange our worlds.

Résumé:
We barely talk about them and seldom know their names. Philosophy has always overlooked them; even biology considers them as mere decoration on the tree of life. And yet plants give life to the Earth: they produce the atmosphere that surrounds us, they are the origin of the oxygen that animates us. Plants embody the most direct, elementary connection that life can establish with the world. In this highly original book, Emanuele Coccia argues that, as the very creator of atmosphere, plants occupy the fundamental position from which we should analyze all elements of life. From this standpoint, we can no longer perceive the world as a simple collection of objects or as a universal space containing all things, but as the site of a veritable metaphysical mixture. Since our atmosphere is rendered possible through plants alone, life only perpetuates itself through the very circle of consumption undertaken by plants. In other words, life exists only insofar as it consumes other life, removing any moral or ethical considerations from the equation. In contrast to trends of thought that discuss nature and the cosmos in general terms, Coccia’s account brings the infinitely small together with the infinitely big, offering a radical redefinition of the place of humanity within the realm of life.

The book takes the reader on an intellectual adventure through a carefully curated selection of 120 places that can be understood as metaphors of contemporary global culture. Spread across all seven continents, from the depths of the ocean to outer space, these places are divided into six chapters: Paradises, Utopias, Machines, Monsters, Ruins, and Instruments. The spectrum ranges from Steve Jobs' Apple Park in California to a national park in Costa Rica, a small field station for the protection of wild orangutans in Borneo, the Great Green Wall in Central Africa, the Trump resort Mar-a-Lago, to the border wall between Israel and Palestine. This book is a grand tour of the most pertinent places in the world today.

Résumé:
After studying at the Architectural Association in London, John Godwin and Gillian Hopwood moved to Nigeria, where they significantly shaped the country's architectural landscape for more than sixty years. When Nigeria became independent in 1960 following British dominance since the 19th century, the couple worked to create architecture that was site-specific, modern, and adapted to the climate relevant to Nigeria's aspirational political and economic policies. In this illustrated monograph, organised by typology, Ben Tosland examines Godwin and Hopwood's form of tropical modernism and illuminates its contemporary meanings and concluding with its relevance in times of the climate crisis.
