The architects are currently working on a school and a police station and on prototypes of their so-called "floating homes."

"Norman Foster : works 2" explores several of the architect's most recognizable buildings, including the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank Headquarters in Hong Kong, which virtually reinvented the office tower; the Sackler Galleries at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, a project that epitomizes the effective intervention of contemporary design within historical buildings; and the Carré d'Art in Nîmes, which unified architecture and urbanism to create a vibrant new cultural core at the heart of the city. Bringing together contributions from noted commentators alongside essays and observations by Norman Foster and his colleagues, this overview reveals the key characteristics of Foster's design philosophy, showing how a commitment to social and environmental concerns.

This ambitious collection treating the Italian Fascists’ appropriation of the past for political purposes focuses on the role of the visual in the aim of fusing the past and the modern world in Mussolini’s Italy. With contributions by art historians and classicists, literary and intellectual historians, "Donatello among the Blackshirts" demonstrates that the Fascist regime appropriated not only Italy’s ancient Roman past but also the medieval, Renaissance, and even baroque eras, as well as its own recent history, in constructing a new myth of the nation. Every aspect of visual culture—from monumental architecture, sculpture, painting, and gardens to exhibitions, spectacles, films, medals, household items, and stamps—helped to link the past with modernity. As a result, Italy’s artistic traditions became familiar to all social classes throughout the peninsula. While this richly illustrated book concerns Fascist Italy, at the same time it also shows how Italy’s premodern artistic traditions have been passed down to the present through the filter of the Fascist era.

Résumé:
In 1949, the forest magnate, H.R. MacMillan, opened an exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery entitled “Design for Living,” a show which brought together design and artistic communities to create four imaginary households for postwar Vancouverites. It also heralded an unprecedented level of cooperation between the province’s industry and its artists and craftspeople – a relationship that seemed to hold great promise for the development of art, furniture, and craft in B.C. The celebration of the cooperative spirit between “architects, artists and designers,” between “potters, weavers and gardeners” is central to "A Modern Life", which examines the coming together of what were often very separate disciplines in post-World War II British Columbia, as well as the trend-setting design and use of materials that developed in the province, and the impact these had on the more traditional art community. "A Modern Life", demonstrates that the ideas of the artistic and design community as a whole during this vibrant period – an era of optimism and promise for the future, in a province that had reason to believe passionately in what was to come – have a continued relevance and importance for our understanding of the history of this community and the relationship of the built environment to the extraordinary landscape of British Columbia. With essays by Rachel Chinnery on ceramics, Scott Watson on fine arts, Alan Elder on collaboration, Allan Collier on wood and design, and Sherry McKay on architecture.
