DR1974:0002:022:001-021
Description:
- This album contains 21 transfer lithographs of contract and working drawings for the Chambre des Notaires, Paris. The transfer lithographs of the contract drawings (DR1974:0002:022:002, DR1974:0002:022:003 and DR1974:0002:022:005 - DR1974:0002:022:011) are signed by architects Charles Rohault de Fleury and Auguste Joseph Pellechet (Hillairet, 393), and by six unidentified hands, probably those of the contractors and/or client(s). Several revisions are evident between these transfer lithographs, dated April 1855, and the transfer lithographs of the working drawings, predominantly dated June 1855 (DR1974:0002:022:001 and DR1974:0002:022:012 - DR1974:0002:022:018). Minor changes have been made in the distribution of spaces on all floors, while more significant changes have been made in the dimensions and design of the façade bays (Bergdoll). Rohault de Fleury considered three alternate elevations (DR1974:0002:022:019 - DR1974:0002:022:021) for the principal façade with different column dispositions and window designs. The basic arrangement of the façade, however, remained the same: three floors each carrying a different order, separated by prominent entablatures and surmounted by an attic roof with dormer windows. The façade as constructed most closely approximates the elevations on transfer lithographs DR1974:0002:022:001 and DR1974:0002:022:002. The floor plans, with their detailed measurements, also correspond quite closely to the building as constructed (Bergdoll). The plans are particularly informative concerning the mixed use of iron and masonry construction. The "soubassement" consists of numerous masonry supports spanned by iron beams, while the "rez-de-chaussée" and "entresol" are constructed of iron columns, beams, and lintels allowing for abundant fenestration on the side façades (DR1974:0002:022:003 - DR1974:0002:022:004). The upper stories then revert back to a construction similar to that of the "soubassement".

Description:
- This etching of a fireworks construction or macchina is in the form of a pavilion with unroofed arcades extending to either side. The pavilion is roofed by a tent-like structure and is open at front and back to show a group of people gathered around a large table. The two arcades are made of palm trees: the tree trunks are the columns and their leaves form the arches. The substructure includes rooms containing animals, which are visible behind barred windows.

Description:
- A long, rectangular garden structure in the form of a loggia separating two small end pavilions. The loggia, consisting of five bays articulated by freestanding Doric columns, is approached by steps across its entire width and opens onto a series of niches occupied by sculptural figures in the rear wall. The end pavilions, which show on the main exterior elevation a pedimented window framed by rustication and a molded arch, are square in plan and capped by a dome not expressed on the exterior.

Description:
- A sectional elevation of a small, one-room garden pavilion with a dome and shallow portico. The two columns of the portico support an arch and a coffered barrel vault. On the interior the facing wall is decorated with ornate pilasters and panels set on either side of a central niche housing a sculpted figure (Mars or Minerva) above a couch, or seat. The inside of the dome is richly decorated with coffers that rise spirally to a glazed occulus. The basic architectural forms are drawn mechanically and the details are added freehand.

Description:
This drawing shows a three-story, centrally planned palace. The entry portal at center features paired columns flanking niches with allegorical figures. Above them are empty escutcheons. On the walls on either side of the portal are two larger allegorical sculptural groups. A courtyard separates the entry portal from the palace, which Blondel indicates with an overall gray wash. The ground floor is mostly obscured by the gate, however it includes rectangular windows visible between the gate’s columns. The first level has large, un-mullioned windows which are not completely geometric but have a soft bow at the top. These are interspersed with Corinthian pilasters on either side of a central pavilion. This pavilion projects slightly and includes pairs of Corinthian columns at the corners. Three rounded windows are centered above the portal and atop these is a large triangular pediment with an indistinct sculptural scene roughly sketched at its center. Above the pediment are two reclining allegorical figures supporting a large escutcheon. An attic story includes Corinthian pilasters and two figures at either corner. Two square, un-mullioned windows are visible on either side of the central sculptural group. Perpendicular to the central mass are two wings that signal the palace’s U-shaped plan. These wings appear to follow the orders of the main facade and both levels feature rounded windows with low balustrades. At the top of the flat roof on either side are four pairs of allegorical and mythological figures. Projecting laterally from the main building are two single-story buildings that are likely entrances to the basse-cour (outer courtyard). These out buildings are distinguished from the palace through their rustication. Their portals have triangular pediments with empty escutcheons and lions on either side.

Description:
- This watercolour rendering depicts a welcome arch composed of a large central barrel vaulted archway which spans the street, with a lower parallel barrel vaulted archway over the sidewalks at each side. The central archway is surmounted by a dome on a drum and the entire structure is supported by four rows of columns. The arch is embellished with Gothic-inspired features such as blind tracery and pointed arches as well as shields, including two inscribed with the letter "L", flags, floral garlands, the British royal coat of arms, and possibly lights. Staffage indicates the large scale of the arch.

Description:
- This album consists of 23 presentation drawings and transfer lithographs for an 1859-1860 project for an opera house for the Théâtre impérial de l'opéra. Three drawings and one engraving for the project which are included in the album, are not listed in the table of contents (DR1974:0002:027:005, DR1974:0002:027:006, DR1974:0002:027:021, DR1974:0002:027:027). Site plans DR1974:0002:027:002 and DR1974:0002:027:003 show the opera house on an irregular polygonal site just off boulevard des Capucines, enclosed by rues Neuve Mogador, Neuve des Mathurins, du Chemin de fer de l'Ouest (proposed), de l'Opéra (proposed), and place de l'Opéra (proposed). The principal façade is two storeys high and five bays wide. Serliana arches are supported and separated by Doric columns below and by Ionic columns above (DR1974:0002:027:004, DR1974:0002:027:006, and DR1974:0002:027:007). Iron roof trusses are visible in cross section DR1974:0002:027:024. The auditorium is a modified horseshoe shape, squarish in plan (DR1974:0002:027:012 - DR1974:0002:027:014). A cross section through the auditorium shows the stage curtain with a trompe-l'oeil view of the opera's proposed principal façade.
