Résumé:
We live in challenging times. There is overwhelming evidence that massive change is required in order to survive impending environmental collapse. Yet this fifth volume in the Archifutures series takes the position that the "apocalypse" is not an imminent event, but an insidious process that is already happening. Communities everywhere are facing it on a day-to-day basis. Many are already resisting and adapting. Despite the implied drama of the word "apocalypse", the reality is actually far more mundane: surviving it is not about building bunkers, it is about building resilience - everywhere and in all kinds of ways.

Résumé:
Paradoxically, the historical legacy of Korean housing is both heroic and mundane. Until recently, the nation’s rapid urbanisation fuelled the creation of new regions of high-density dwellings, while cycles of urban renewal continue to push the radical disjunction between new and historical fabrics. Yet the ongoing impasse between developmental pressures and design progress has reduced housing to its basic elements. A current wave of architects has begun formulating new, efficient syntaxes with nuanced social qualities. While the works in this volume represent unique solutions, what we can learn from their innovations goes far further, towards making conscious typological advances.

Résumé:
This diminutive artist’s book was specially commissioned by Ivorypress as part of an ongoing series. ‘Verso’ is a previously unpublished work by British sculptor and installation artist Cornelia Parker. Taking button samplers as her starting point, Parker uncovers the patterns left by the buttons and holes on the reverse side of these mundane pieces, using string and thread to create drawings and paths while attempting to reveal the motivations they might hide, or even what they could say about those who made them. A short but evocative text by Colm Tóibín offers some perspective on the work.

Here she explores the contents of an eclectic selection of books encompassing an assortment of divergent but related themes, from typography to linguistics and from spirituality to symbolism.

Dutch photographer Marnix Goossens spent seven years documenting surrogate nature in somewhat run-down interiors, a recurrent theme reflecting our underlying yearning for the freedom inspired by exotic destinations and wide-open spaces. In place of the real thing, Goossens pictures palm-print wallpaper, false wood grain adhesive, flowery motifs and faded posters of snow-capped mountains. Otherwise mundane and overlooked details and decorative elements are appreciated anew and in unexpected ways through a profusion of detail, colour nuances, and careful lighting. The book is published on the occasion of a solo exhibition by Goossens at Foam, Amsterdam.

Résumé:
"Inhabiting Identity" is the fifth in an annual series of publications featuring the best young architects as selected by The Architectural League of New York. For this year's competition, architects were asked to explore how technology has altered our sense of space. Their answers not only challenge our sense of habitation but teach us to think beyond the normal and the mundane. This year's winners of the competition—Stephanie Forsythe and Todd MacAllen, Steven Mankouche, Ben Checkwitch, Stella Betts, Lisa Hsieh, and Mike Latham—make use of unusual materials (wooden shipping pallets) while maintaining creative ideas (mobile rooms) in their investigations of the role of modern technology in our daily lives.

It's my hope that the continuous flow of aesthetic accidents in this book will evoke a sense of awe in the everyday world similar to what I experience while I'm out photographing in the streets and alleys of Montreal, '100 sculptural circumstances' is a call to action that challenges the viewer to be fascinated by the world, and invites them into the embrace of the alchemy of the mundane, which is so very central to my photographic aesthetic.''
