Résumé:
At the beginning of the 1970s, American physicist Gerard K. O’Neill developed the first ideas for colonizing space. Shortly thereafter, Stewart Brand, cyber-communard and editor of the Whole Earth Catalog, took up these ideas and published the book Space Colonies in 1977. Space Colonies, an edition of Brand’s CoEvolution Quarterly, funded by the proceeds of the Whole Earth Catalog, took up the question of whether space might be colonized by the year 2000. Artist Fabian Reimann takes up Brand and O’Neill’s particular strain of techno-utopianism in Space Colonies: A Galactic Freeman’s Journal. In his photo-essay Reimann assembles historical, present-day and speculative material, combining these with fictional and factual stories to create a composite of different images of the world. With global ecological disaster an even more pressing issue than it was in 1977, and the colonization of space still touted by some as a last-ditch resort, Reimann looks back at the dreams and nightmares of the 1970s with a sophisticated visual humor.

Résumé:
What would be of contemporary culture if we did not recognize the impact of migration in cultural and socio-economic crossings? This book explores human migration in different times, contexts, and geographies surrounding the Aegean Sea. Through an assemblage of voices, lived experiences, historical documents, urban and rural dislocations, this publication examines responses to mobility of the ones on the move, and of the ones living in the destinations the former are heading to. It speaks of the sacrifices one is forced to make en route and at its antipode; the implications of voluntary migration to a place, steered by investment in real estate.

This book is William Firebrace's zigzagging exploration of six places on the edges of the German-speaking world. Deploying essays, narration, conversations, descriptions, and lists, Firebrace celebrates locations on defined and undefined borders, where cultures, languages, and histories mix. In his nonlinear wandering, he touches on ethnicity, topography, history, film, literature, myth, languages, and gastronomy.

Résumé:
The revolution in modes of travel during the twentieth century has transformed not only the way we move through the world, but how we perceive it. Architects’ Journeys brings together contemporary architects, historians and theorists to consider the role that travel has played in the evolution of architectural practice during the last century. Looking beyond the model of enlightened tourism founded by the legacy of the Grand Tour, the book’s contributors investigate travel as a form of displacement prefiguring the emergence of the figure of the global architect in the late twentieth century.
