DR1974:0002:009:001-079
Description:
- This album contains mostly design development and presentation drawings - plans, sections and elevations - for three projects: structures for Parc de Clichy, an "entrepôt de vins" with a "guinguette", and a "maison du blanchisseur". Structures proposed for Parc de Clichy include one - or possibly two - washhouses, a sewer, a reservoir and a manège (riding school). There appears to be two alternate designs for the manège and three for the reservoir. The first reservoir design is a simple building with arched entrances and a small balcony (DR1974:0002:009:020 - DR1974:0002:009:025); the second design is more elaborate, consisting of a rectangular building enclosing the reservoir basin and two square two-storey buildings with Ionic columns and quoins (DR1974:0002:009:031 - DR1974:0002:009:035). The first manège design (DR1974:0002:009:011 - DR1974:0002:009:019) consists of an unornamented rectangular building with a central octagonal space. The final proposal for structures at Parc de Clichy in this album (DR1974:0002:009:036 - DR1974:0002:009:049) incorporates both the reservoir and the second design for the manège, one on each side of rue de Lavoir. The reservoir is virtually identical to the first reservoir design, and the manège complements the reservoir in its exterior appearance. Many of the drawings for structures for Parc de Clichy depict the hydraulic systems. Twenty-three drawings for the "entrepôt de vins" include variant designs for site layout and buildings (probably warehouses) and for the adjacent "guinguette" (open air cafe). Parc de Clichy and the "entrepôt de vins" were perhaps at the same location, as indicated by drawings DR1974:0002:009:011, DR1974:0002:009:069 and DR1974:0002:009:078. An unidentified building on site plans for the "entrepôt de vins" is similar in plan and siting to the first manège design for Parc de Clichy. The relationship of the five variant designs for a "maison du blanchisseur" to the other projects in this album is unclear. All of the buildings in the album were intended to be finished in stone or a combination of stone, brick and/or tiles.

Album of drawings and prints for a Hôtel de préfecture and a Hôtel de ville, Poitiers, France
DR1974:0002:020:001-050
Description:
- This album contains drawings by Charles Rohault de Fleury which range from preliminary sketches to finished drawings - mostly plans, elevations and sections - for unexecuted projects for a Hôtel de préfecture and a Hôtel de ville for the city of Poitiers (Département de Vienne). Highly finished conceptual drawings dated September 1859 depict the general appearance and layout of the Hôtel de préfecture, however, the plans pertain primarily to the Hôtel du Préfet (DR1974:0002:020:003 - DR1974:0002:020:011). Transfer lithographs of working drawings for the Hôtel de préfecture dated November 1859 have detailed measurements showing the layout and construction of all the major building components (DR1974:0002:020:014 - DR1974:0002:020:018 and DR1974:0002:020:020). Also included are a plan and elevation dated February 1860 (DR1974:0002:020:013 and DR1974:0002:020:019). A site plan and perspective view for this Louis XIIIth style hôtel de préfecture have detailed keys (DR1974:0002:020:001 and DR1974:0002:020:002). The utilitarian structures for the Hôtel de préfecture, such as the portico pavilions and the Archives building, are constructed in a sparser style than the Hôtel du Préfet. The project for the Hôtel de ville is much less developed than that for the Hôtel de préfecture. Most of the drawings are unbound at the end of the album (DR1974:0002:020:035 - DR1974:0002:020:050). The two designs for this project, dated October 1859 and December 1859, are similar and depict an Italianate (Francis I ?) two-storey arcuated façade with pedimented windows, and coupled Corinthian columns. The construction materials are brick and stone. The two designs differ in the disposition of their flanking pavilions: the earlier project is housed under one roof (DR1974:0002:020:037), while the later project shows separate roofs for the pavilions (DR1974:0002:020:040 and DR1974:0002:020:042). Site plan DR1974:0002:020:012 indicates the proposed locations of the Hôtel de préfecture and Hôtel de ville: the former is situated near the train station between rue des Carmelites and boulevard Solferino, and the latter on a newly created square just west of the Hôtel de préfecture between rue des Grandes Écoles and rue de la Mairie.

Description:
- This album consists mainly of design development and presentation drawings and transfer lithographs - mostly plans, sections, and elevations - for eight unexecuted projects for an addition to the Cabinet d'histoire naturelle at the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle, Paris. Seven of these projects are for a Galerie de zoologie, and one is for a Galerie de botanique et de paléontologie. Three types of plans, all classically-inspired, are developed for these projects, which date from 1838 to 1862. The most completely documented project, dated 9 January 1846, is represented in four pen and ink plans and forty transfer lithographs. This proposal consists of a U-shaped building surrounding a courtyard with a double row of galleries on the ground floor of the main wing. The principal façade has a colonnade of engaged Corinthian columns with pedimented entrances at each end. Two projects similar in plan to the 1846 project are dated 1839 (DR1974:0002:024:007, DR1974:0002:024:009, DR1974:0002:024:011), and 1842 (DR1974:0002:024:005 - DR1974:0002:024:006). Two projects have U-shaped plans with central courtyards and a single row of galleries, one dated 1838 (DR1974:0002:024:023, DR1974:0002:024:032, DR1974:0002:024:035 and DR1974:0002:024:038), and a second, for the Galerie de botanique et de paléontologie, dated 1839 (DR1974:0002:024:015, DR1974:0002:024:017 and DR1974:0002:024:020). Three projects have plans with a single row of galleries surrounding a central gallery: one dated 1838 (DR1974:0002:024:026 - DR1974:0002:024:028); a second possibly dated 1838 (DR1974:0002:024:043 and DR1974:0002:024:046); and a third dated 1862 (with an attached note dated 1864) (DR1974:0002:024:059-60, DR1974:0002:024:063, DR1974:0002:024:066, DR1974:0002:024:069, and DR1974:0002:024:073-074). Eight alternate plans for a Galerie de zoologie on two sheets, DR1974:0002:024:002 and DR1974:0002:024:003, include some of the designs developed in this album. Two site plans engraved by Charles-Bonaparte Marlier (DR1974:0002:024:049 - DR1974:0002:024:050), have additions by Rohault de Fleury showing his ideas for the Muséum. Also included are a site plan for a projected addition to the Galerie de minéralogie et de géologie (DR1974:0002:024:056), a transfer lithograph of elevations for the Galerie d'anatomie comparée (DR1974:0002:024:051), and a sketch for a greenhouse (DR1974:0002:024:001).
