Résumé:
This fully-illustrated guide to Shropshire treats each city, town, and village in a detailed gazetteer and includes a variety of helpful maps, plans, and indexes along with an illustrated glossary. The book is an invaluable reference work on the appealing and unspoiled county of Shropshire, where many historic towns, including Shrewsbury and Ludlow, are especially plentiful in Georgian and timber-framed buildings. Shropshire boasts the Cistercian abbey of Buildwas and many important country houses, including the 13th-century fortified mansions at Acton Burnell and Stokesay; John Nash's Italianate villa at Cronkhill; and Norman Shaw's splendid Late Victorian mansion at Adcote. Shropshire is also home to numerous prehistoric hill-forts and the Roman town at Wroxeter as well as Coalbrookdale’s spectacular bridge, the first in the world to be built of iron.

Résumé:
In his debut monograph, "Luoghi", Nicola Buonomo deepens his engagement with nine familiar places. Ranging from his grandmother's backyard to a sand production facility nearby, these are all within a few kilometers of Nicola’s home in Northern Sicily, Italy. The photographs display a subtly dissonant relationship between man-made infrastructure and the natural world. Nicola first defined a clear perimeter for each area, outside of which he could not photograph. In creating these limitations, he ambitiously sought to exhaust most of the possibilities of his gaze within them- prompting a repetitive style of shooting. Sometimes photographing a single subject many times, Nicola forced himself to find new relationships with what he already knew well. In this attempt to enrich his relationship with the familiar, Nicola’s process became synonymous with the final work.

Résumé:
"Coincidence" is the debut photobook by photographer Jeremy Liebman, exploring family, memory, and ideas of home through black-and-white photography. Spanning Dallas, Texas; Brooklyn, New York; and the English countryside, the book follows three generations of the Liebman family, capturing their lives as they unfold in parallel. After more than a decade contributing to the visual aesthetic of Apartamento magazine across 16 features, Jeremy turns his lens inward to create an intimate family portrait. The book centres on a poignant dialogue between his late father, the photographer Richard Liebman, and his young grandchildren: as they reach out to the world, Jeremy’s father’s grasp on language slowly loosens and his hold on memory slowly wanes. Somewhere between them, Jeremy finds an aperture—the possibility that they are, momentarily, seeing the world in a similar way.

Résumé:
Tashkent, the southernmost metropolis of millions in the Soviet Union, is a city redolent with architectural contrasts and paradoxes. Home to the world’s most beautiful prefabricated buildings, it features a prominent urban duality predicated upon the oriental Old City and the Russian New City. Never was this contrast brought into sharper focus than during the severe earthquake of 1966 which left the New City relatively unscathed but the Old City in ruins. Yet one respite was offered: a rebuilding effort which triggered an upsurge of innovation. The city thus became the face of Seismic Modernism – unprecedented in history, the earthquake stimulated the modernization of urban development in Tashkent. Architects incorporated regional building traditions in their socialist modern designs, including the visually intriguing façade mosaics attributed to the little-known Jarsky brothers.

In 2021, Etel Adnan and Simone Fattal recorded an intimate conversation about the Mediterranean at their Parisian home: "There are many Mediterraneans: the geographical, the historical, the philosophical... the personal, the one we swim, and we have swum in. It‘s an experience to swim, it is something you can‘t explain to somebody who never swam. This feeling of being held up by this water." The third cycle of TBA21–Academy’s curatorial fellowship program "The Current", spanning from 2021–2023 focused on the Mediterraneans in a program entitled "Thus waves come in pairs" after a line from Adnan’s poem "Sea and Fog." It pointed to the necessity of thinking of, and thinking with, the Mediterraneans as plural—plural as their interconnected cultures, and bodies of sweet and salty water, and possibilities of narrating their current transformations.

Résumé:
The distinctive visual language, bright colors, and unexpected materials of the '80s postmodernists are making a comeback. After decades of minimalism, midcentury modern, and Scandinavian design, a new wave of architects and designers are experimenting with shape, scale, and symbolic references to add expression and meaning to interior and furniture design. Playing with the themes of postmodernism, sometimes knowingly, sometimes incidentally, creatives are once again demonstrating that form doesn’t have to follow function, less is not more, and ornament is not a crime. These twenty-one houses from around the world transform the everyday with joyful colors and patterns, the juxtaposition of materials, and the celebration of surfaces. Daring and delightful with a healthy dose of wit and whimsy, Ornament Is Not a Crime is for anyone seeking bold inspiration for their home.

Résumé:
Berlin was once the biggest industrial area in Europe, home to large-scale enterprises like AEG and Siemens. Bewag, the Berlin electricity provider, laid the foundations for a modern power supply together with these companies. Power Stations in Berlin considers numerous local power stations as an integral part of the city's architectural heritage, from the period of industrialization at the beginning of the 20th century until now, giving a comprehensive overview of Berlin as an industrial city in the process. The question of how to reuse these unique plants, is raised; the right balance between preserving the facilities and finding a new economic use for them is crucial. The book includes essays by Klaus Bürgel, Hilmar Bärthel, Hans-Achim Grube, Christina Keseberg, Matthias Dunger, Herbert Strobel, Jörg Haspel, and Hubert Staroste

This catalog from design giant Vitra Inc. is used as a marketing tool for furniture sales, and it’s beautifully persuasive, proving that these classic pieces of design can work in the real world. Put an Eames lounge chair in front of a disheveled pile of records, a Nelson sunburst clock over a platter of leeks and carrots, or a Panton plastic chair at the bottom of a swimming pool with enthusiastic children using it for a diving platform – you’ll understand that fine design works anywhere. Just ask the black and white kitty curled up in the Nelson Coconut Chair. A handsome full-color volume.
