Résumé:
We see so many mediocre office building designs that it is easy to forget just how complex and innovative a well-made one can be. Such is the case with the headquarters for the Belgian financial firm CNP (Compagnie Nationale à Portefeuille) in Charleroi, Belgium. Designed by the office of Belgian architect Philippe Samyn, the CNP Headquarters is a masterwork of ecologically oriented construction and refined aesthetics. In this monograph el-Khoury and Pasnik document the rich and dramatic architectural vocabulary of this project.

Résumé:
The modern workplace has evolved from a dehumanized cubicle landscape to space designed for intelligent human life. While utility and amenity are vastly improved, what advances have been made in building truly creative communities that spark creativity, knowledge sharing and collaboration? Is the 21st century office performing at peak? "The Theatre of Work" proposes an intensified relationship between office users and the space they occupy. The new workspace should amplify and celebrate the activity of work and of human community, and in the process, becoming vital and compelling Theatre

Résumé:
Niimori Jamison Architects' work raises some issues and highlights the new desing orientations undertaken by the latest generations of Japanese architects, with the further enrichment of the transnational composition of the office, led by the Japanese Yudai Niimori and the Australian James Jamison. Although the office is still in its initial phase, some lines of work worthy of further development are recognizable: the antithesis between accuracy and 'unfinished', the layering of previous ages withing the new interventions, the absence of protagonism by the architects, in other words the objective analysis of the site.

Résumé:
This instalment investigates two main themes: Live/Work Hybrids and Recovering Wood. In the first, seven small office projects are examined that raise questions about how working space will be organized in the future. With advancements in communications technology, Fraher Architects, Carlo Bagliani, Akitoshi Ukai and others demonstrate the office block’s possible demise. Also, wood is back in fashion. Projects by Shigeru Ban, Gensler, HAMR and more show its recovery as a contemporary building material, revealing the motives for this renewed interest, like technological discoveries and softening the encounter between our natural and built environment.

Résumé:
The contemporary workplace has derived from successive compression and decompression. First, there was the hierarchical Taylorist office. Then came the rational, well-lit and organised space with individual cubicles. A return to the open landscape office came later, with free layouts shrouded in vegetation – the forerunner of the dematerialisation of the workplace. Today, we are in a far more fluid state that envisages the specialisation of space and brand expression: diversity and identity. The workplace should not only encompass tasks like individual and group work, but also those involving learning and socialising.
