Résumé:
No genre has fascinated Gerhard Richter so consistently throughout his career as that of landscape. Ever since his softly overpainted Views of Corsica series of 1968-69, the artist has revisited and reprised its possibilities, creating black-and-white townscapes based on newspaper picture and amateur photographs, mountain and park scenes with heavy impasto, illusionistic seascapes in subtly gradated tones and paintings worked with abstract overpainting. Frequently these paintings interrupt or quietly sabotage the transcendent horizon of the Romantic landscape, but the image presented is not exactly ironized as in other paintings of Richter's. This new edition brings us up to date with Richter's enduring fondness for this subject.

It is a known fact that manmade climate change is especially prominent in alpine topography. The Austrian photographer Michael Goldgruber examines the marginal parts of glacier, snow, and rock zones with a critical eye. Goldgruber’s photographic works show sections of these landscapes that reflect a human dilemma – the longing for romantic landscape images on the one hand, and the reality of the countryside as altered by human activity on the other. Unlike classic landscape panoramas with their idealized images of nature, in Goldgruber’s works there is often no horizon, the proportions and scale remain unclear, the ice and rock formations fill the picture completely. The alpine world becomes an actor in its own right – it crumbles, melts, transforms.

''Odile Decq: The Wunderkammer of Odile Decq'' invites you to take a voyage and explore Odile Decq's unique and complete universe of architecture, urban planning, design and art, which celebrates the freedom of imagination and shines a light on her distinctive approach to what is conventionally defined as architecture. Perhaps nothing could set the tone for this book better than Odile Decq's own poetic words, a credo that has become evident after 40 years of architectural and design practice: "The horizon line is a constant temptation, and gives the desire of beyond, the absence of limits blurs the perception, creates ambiguity, fusion, and illusion. The consciousness of elsewhere, the perception of the space beyond."

'The Necessity of Ruins, JB Jackson claimed, lies in the fact that “there has to be that interval of neglect, there has to be discontinuity; it is religiously and artistically essential... Many of us know the joy and excitement not so much as creating the new as of redeeming what has been neglected... that is how we reproduce the cosmic and correct history.” Jackson did not shy away from the wide horizon, the deep pull of time and the cosmic scale.

Résumé:
The history of architecture is often read in terms of periods that each have their own zeitgeist and movements that each have their own architectural language. What happens if we depart from this zeitgeist concept and use a cyclical history model instead? In the 1970s and 1980s, this question was usually considered from the seemingly mutually exclusive points of view of the modern, the anti-modern and the postmodern positions. Over the past two decades, contemporary European architecture developed a different frame of reference, one in which the horizon is no longer provided by the architecture of the modern movement. This issue traces how, against the background of this broadening frame of reference, a different understanding of modernity emerged.
