Description:
Project series documents Cornelia Hahn Oberlander's landscape project for the restoration of grounds at the Museum of Anthropology of the University of British Columbia. Orberlander worked on this project in 1997 with architect Arthur Erickson. This project was undertaken in preparation for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting, held at the museum in the same year, to restore and improve conditions of the original landscape plan designed by Cornelia Hahn Oberlander between 1975 and 1977. The project series includes sketches, design development drawings, including site plans with Oberlander's annotations of the restoration to be done, grading plans, and landscape plans showing existing conditions, presentation drawings of the proposed improvements, and reference working drawings. The project is also documented through photographic material, including photographs of the landscaping before the improvement work and and photographs of the landscaping and the museum. The project series also comprises textual records, such as a proposal, concept notes by Oberlander, correspondence, including correspondence with clients, consultants and contractors, meetings notes, and specifications.

Oberlander worked on this project in the early 1990s. Oberlander's project for the Feigl residence consisted in redesigning the garden initally executed in the late 1950s by Justice & Webb Landscape Architects. She later returned in 2007-2008 for the design and the planting of an "green shield" of trees to improve to view from the residence and block the noises from the neighbouring developments. The project series contains only nine drawing, including preliminary grading plans, site plans, and land surveys used as reference.The project series also comprises textual records, including concept notes by Oberlander, correspondence with client and contractors, photographs of the existing landscaping, and cost estimates. The 2007-2008 addition is documented through a series of sketches of the view on the garden from the house, correspondence with contractors and client.

Oberlander worked on this project from 2000-2001. The UEL is a unincorporated community located between the City of Vancouver and the University of British Columbia. The park was planned as a recreation space for young families and children living in the University Village, a new village complex of UEL. The plants were also selected to provide interest through out the seasons with varying vegetation and flowers, and ensures low maintenance. The project series includes design development drawings and working drawings, including landscape and planting plans, presentation panels, and a presentation model. The series includes also photographs of the park during construction and once completed. The project is also documented through correspondence with clients and consultants, a project proposal by Oberlander, specifications and a contractor tender, concept notes, documentation for research, meetings notes, inspection reports and financial documents. Oberlander worked on this project from 1975-1976 with architect Arthur Erickson. The project was completed in 1976. Due to the location of museum on the Northwest Coast First Nations site, the building was designed to evoke a First Nations longhouse. Oberlander concept for the landscaping was inspired by the Northwest Coast First Nations culture. It initally included a reflecting pool to represent the coastal inlet and an ethnobotanically significant selection of plants. However some features from the original design, such as the reflecting pool and some of the indegenious planting, weren't realized until the mid-2000s. The shield the site from the noise of the busy NW Marine Drive, located next to the grounds, Oberlander included "a series of large mounds planted with Haida seed mix". [1] The project series contains reprographic copies of working drawings, including landscape plans, landscape sections and details, grading and irrigation plans, planting plans, and site plans. The project is also documented through textual records, including specification, correspondence with architects and clients, inspection reports, and some handwritten notes by Oberlander. The project series also comprises photographs of the museum site.
