Résumé:
One glimpse of the cascading steel beams mirrored in the reflecting pond and it's clear that the Hugo and Brigitte Eppich house is a singular achievement, a daring experiment that embodies Erickson's West Coast modernist ideas about site, material, and form. Erickson's first steel residence explores both the structural and aesthetic possibilities of the material, with curved beams, dyed cladding, and milled furnishings designed by Francisco Kripacz- features that would have been near-impossible on a regular commission. But after seeing the first Eppich House, built for Hugo's twin brother Helmut, Hugo entrusted Erickson with creating and furnishing the entire house, inside and out- another first for Erickson- and made available the Eppic brothers' steel fabricating plants, which built virtually every component of the home.

Résumé:
Ron Thom came of age in the mid-20th century, just as the modern movement and an impending building boom were about to reshape the country. Talented in music and art as well as design, he rejected sleek austerity in favor of modern architecture that is warm, intimate, and beautiful. He worked from coast to coast, and his most renowned buildings-Massey College, Trent University, the Shaw Festival Theatre, and landmark houses-continue to inspire generations of architects, as well as the legions of people who work, study, visit, and live in them. In this new biography, Ron Thom emerges as a complex figure, gifted with creative genius but pursued by demons. More than just the life story of one man, this book is a portrait of the society that shaped him. His world included Jack Shadbolt, Arthur Erickson, the Massey family, Barbara and Murray Frum, and many other luminaries of 20th-century Canada.

Résumé:
The iconic architecture of the brutalist modernist megastructure of Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada built by architect Arthur Erickson in the 1960s is the site of the artistic research project into the history of this "radical campus" and its built environment by Vancouver and Vienna based artists Sabine Bitter and Helmut Weber. The collaborative research group, "Guests and Hosts", formed by Bitter & Weber and Métis scholar June Scudeler including Métis scholar and student Treena Chambers, Kanien’kehá:ka Mohawk student Toni-Leah Yake, as well as Rachel Warwick and Hannah Campbell, has challenged the narrative of the radical campus, so called because it was informed by experimental concepts of learning and teaching. Using the spaces of a settler colonial institution, the project shifts perspectives by unsettling and challenging western- based concepts of pedagogy and knowledge. Combining archival photographic material, architectural photographs by the artists, and interventions into the institutional spaces by Guests and Hosts, the project performs the claim for places rather than spaces for Indigenous ways of knowing and learning.

Résumé:
Selwyn Pullan became known specifically for his ability to contextualize the work of architects through unique composition and tonal range. His photographs were included in numerous architectural periodicals in the 1950s and '60s, and he played an important role in transmitting the new style of West Coast modernist architecture to consumers via popular magazines. Pullan photographed projects for British Columbia's leading architects from this era, including Ron Thom, Arthur Erickson, and Barry Downs, and today his photos are all that are left of many of these projects, now demolished or altered beyond recognition.

Résumé:
This publication examines twelve architect-created houses designed between the 1940s and the 1980s for several distinct regions of Canada. The architects chosen number among the most prolific and best known in Canada who were working during this period, including Raymond T. Affleck, Raymond Moriyama, Arthur Erickson, Douglas Cardinal, John B. Parkin Associates, and Patkau Architects. Other architects with perhaps a more regional reputation have also been included, such as the Vancouver-based firm of McCarter & Nairne, Calgarys Jack Long, and Edmontons Peter Hemingway. Apart from the documentation of the twelve houses (drawings and photos), there are interpretative essays on each.
