Résumé:
The murals, computer images, paper works, drawings and objects of Berlin-based Michael Hakimi are combined in site-specific installations to form intricate networks of meaning. Hakimi expands the function of his formally reduced, two-dimensional images by means of his interventions, emphasizing the semantic divide between object and sign. The artist examines the narrative potential of symbols and basic geometric shapes through the collagelike interaction of his works with readymades of the simplest materials. His installation "Large Oven" (2004), for example, realized for the Kunstverein Hamburg, and the spatial project "Roof" (2007), produced for the Kunsthalle Basel, both of which are comprehensively documented for the first time in the present publication, create walk-in scenarios reflecting social, political and urban realities. Beyond these works, this retrospective monograph presents all of Hakimi's work since 2002.

Résumé:
This issue presents a reflection on the spatial aspects of sound alongside an examination of the transformative and temporal dimensions of space. Immersed concentrates on one specific side of the spatial experience, namely sound, presenting new theoretical insights as well as relevant case studies. Sound is a spatial event, a material phenomenon and an auditive experience rolled into one. It can be described using the vectors of distance, direction and location. Within architecture, every built space can modify, position, reflect or reverberate the sounds that occur there. Sound embraces and transcends the spaces in which it occurs, opening up a consummate context for the listener: the acoustic source and its surroundings unite into a unique auditory experience.

Résumé:
This exquisitely produced exhibition catalogue highlights the powerful role of such camaraderie in shaping photography at this seminal time, before the emergence of a market for photography and before widespread artistic acceptance of the medium. It brings to light contrasting philosophies of the artist/photographer's role (influenced by Existentialism for Siskind and by the writings of Spinoza for Sommer), the interest in chance as an artistic process, the expressive potential of photographic found objects and collage, experimental abstraction, close affiliations with fine art movements (New Bauhaus, Abstract Expressionism and Surrealism), and changing attitudes toward the fine-print tradition.

International follyDOCK Contest The changing situation of Heijplaat prompted the visual artist Lowieke Duran to announce The International follyDOCK Contest. The brief: design a folly. A folly may be described as an architectural scherzo, a visually provocative, poetical structure without a specific function.

Résumé:
The Swedish artist couple Mamma Andersson and Jockum Nordstrom have been at the forefront of contemporary figurative painting since the late 1980s. Updating Vuillard for a post-Hitchcock age, Andersson paints beguilingly eerie untenanted interiors and landscapes. Nordstrom's detailed collages, paintings and drawings occupy a more folkloric realm peopled by historical and contemporary characters enacting sexual and social roles across broad narrative panoramas. This publication showcases Andersson and Nordstrom's work from the late 1980s to the present day in over 200 full-color plates. Alongside these, it also includes family snapshots and source materials, a poem by Stig Claesson and an interview with Nordstrom by Marcel Dzama.
