Walk in Mini-Detroit Saves City

#29. Walk in Mini-Detroit Saves City

Map

Instructions

An educational device that replicates a portion of Detroit’s residential architecture and urban layout through a system of photographs mounted on metal frames. Walking among these photographs, which are the only records of some houses in deteriorating Detroit, is a way of encountering vernacular history and preserving spatial relationships. The location of each house is recorded on the images. The frames are placed in the room relative to their location in the city. CUP (the Center for Urban Pedagogy) was founded in 1997 by Damon Rich, an urban designer working with policy and the public.
