Reopening (new procedures)

The opening of The Things Around Us on 16 September coincides with the reopening of our galleries and bookstore to the public. We ask that you review our new policies before visiting us:

Our regular opening hours will return, though reservations are now required of all visitors to our exhibitions and bookstore.

To visit our exhibitions, reservations for a 1h30 visit can be made for individual visitors and for groups of up to four people. We’ll limit gallery capacity to a maximum of eight visitors at a time, as to create distance—both spatial and temporal. Gallery admission includes visits to our bookstore. If you prefer, you can also reserve your visit over the phone by calling +1 514 939 7026.

To visit only our bookstore, reservations for individuals or for groups of up to two people can be made for a 1h visit. We are limiting the capacity to six people at a time to allow for space to browse. If you prefer, you can also reserve your visit over the phone by calling +1 514 939 7028. We continue to accept orders through our online bookstore and offer virtual consultations. You can contact for information about new titles and for assistance.

For researchers, as of 5 October, we are opening our study room for in-person consultations. Researchers may consult collection materials onsite from 1:30pm to 4pm, Mondays to Fridays. We will continue to offer virtual appointments from 10:30am to 12pm, Mondays to Fridays. As always, we ask that all researchers contact with their research queries and to schedule either in-person or virtual appointments. You can refer to our collection access page for more information.

If you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms or are feeling unwell, please take care of yourself and do not come in for your scheduled visit or appointment. You can cancel or reschedule your visit online or by calling us at +1 514 939 7026.

Wearing a mask within the CCA building is obligatory, as is sanitizing your hands upon entry (we have placed hand sanitizer dispensers at our entrances and throughout the building). You’ll find signage and markers to guide distanced movement through the building.

Our gallery-level washrooms are accessible to visitors and are being cleaned every two hours.

Instead of a coat check, there is now a coat rack on which you may hang your coat. We may be able to store certain personal items behind our reception desk for the duration of your visit.

As always, wheelchairs can be requested at the reception desk, and they are being sanitized after each use.

There isn’t seating in our galleries, but you may borrow a folding stool to use throughout your visit. We are sanitizing stools after each use.

We encourage the use of our audio introductions, which can be accessed on personal devices, using the public Wi-Fi network in the building.

Finally, we are only accepting payments and transactions—from museum entry to bookstore purchases—made by card.

Guided tours and other on-site events are on hiatus. Many of our public programs have moved online and will continue to be broadcasted, pre-recorded or live, on our website and through YouTube or Instagram.
