Summary:

Art historian and medievalist Aavitsland (theology, U. of Oslo) explores what can be learned about life in Rome through a series of frescoes from the late 13th or early 14th century discovered during the middle 1960s in the Roman Cistercian abbey of Ss. Vincenzo e Anastasio at Tre Fontane. Among her perspectives are the settings of the vita humana cycle, a man in the tree of life, the eagles, the wheel of senses and the ages of man, the harvest of fruit in the garden of life, and birds and cages. Color plates illustrate panels and details. Annotation ©2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com).
