Art historian and medievalist Aavitsland (theology, U. of Oslo) explores what can be learned about life in Rome through a series of frescoes from the late 13th or early 14th century discovered during the middle 1960s in the Roman Cistercian abbey of Ss. Vincenzo e Anastasio at Tre Fontane. Among her perspectives are the settings of the vita humana cycle, a man in the tree of life, the eagles, the wheel of senses and the ages of man, the harvest of fruit in the garden of life, and birds and cages.
