Series
AP189.S2
Description:
Series 2, Software for producing the projection and narration, 2007-2008, is composed of ten different versions of the module that generates the projection and narration in the open gallery. Seven of the versions were among the files saved to a compact disc following the CCA exhibition and have been kept together as group ARCH275207. Three of the versions were on a hard drive that was used in Rovereto and comprise group ARCH275212. The core elements of each module are two application files. One of these, whose name begins with "VE1" uses parameters contained in a file called "config.txt". The other application file, called "VECalibration" displays the entire volume of the projected architectural space. The geometric parameters for a room are recorded in a separate image file called "ecan-angles.jpg". A readme file in each module explains how the different files interact with one another. It also identifies the version of the "VE1" application files and any issues that may be related to the version. Each module includes hundreds of Shockwave Flash files (.swf), each containing an animated or still image of a person or persons and/or one or more pieces of furniture. Some of the .swf files contain an image of one or more furnished rooms inhabited by one or more persons. In most versions, the config.txt file contains a URL that accesses the database containing the sensor data. The URL references the file "captorsxml.aspx". As mentioned earlier, the config.txt file also contains parameters for the projected image, including scene geometry, colors and space occupation, and lists of the .swf files for persons and objects. Most versions of the module also include twenty-one .mp3 files, one of which is "empty". The other twenty each contain an audio recording of a female voice that states values for temperature, illumination and relative humidity and narrates a scenario written by Alain Robbe-Grillet. There is a French- and English-language version of each scenario

Series
CIAM IV, CIRPAC and London
AP112.S1
Description:
The series contains seven bands of negatives, divided into groups of two and three negatives a band. The first five bands document the 4th Congrès International d'Architecture Moderne (CIAM) held on board the SS Patris II from 29 July to 13 August 1933, as it travelled between Marseilles, France, and Athens, Greece, and then returned. The conference, themed "The Functional City", presented and discussed the results of an analysis of more than thirty cities, and sought to establish new principles in urban planning. Sise participated at the conference as the Canadian delegate and presented the city of Los Angeles, California. The resolutions adopted at the conference were published for the first time in November under the title "Constatations du quatrième CIAM". These findings formed the base of the Charte d'Athenès written by Le Corbusier in 1941. The negatives show some of the participants of the conference including: Le Corbusier (1887-1965), from the French delegation; László Moholy-Nagy (1895-1946), from the German delegation, who was in charge of filming the presentations; Alvar Aalto (1898-1976), representing Finland; and the painter Fernand Léger (1881-1955), also from the French delegatation, who presented on the importance of colour in architecture. The two other bands of negatives provide evidence of Sise's attendance at Comité International pour la Résolution des Problèmes d'Architecture Contemporaine (CIRPAC), held in May 1934 at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London, England, to establish the program for the next CIAM (1). They also show his meeting in London with Georges Braque during the summer of the same year. (1) Eric Mumford states in "The CIAM Discourse on Urbanism, 1928-1960" that Le Corbusier did not participate at this conference (p. 92).

Description:
Album showing exterior and interior views of the "Château de Madrid" in Bois de Boulogne (boulevard Richard Wallace, Neuilly-sur-Seine), France. This Château was built in 1912 (a drawing of the building in the album bears the date 1910) in the Renaissance style where used to stand the "Château de Boulogne", afterwards named the "Château de Madrid", built by François 1er between 1528 and 1568. The name evokes the short captivity of the King in Spain. The castle was sold in 1792 and demantled to recuperate the materials. The building showed in the album is also named "Château de Madrid" as seen on a post-sign in one of the photographs. This building is also visible on some old postcards (cf. documentation). Also visible on another post-sign, is the street name 'Avenue Richard Wallace'. Corbel writes (p. 57), that in 1851, the 'Madrid Restaurant' was located at the end of Saint-James, in a secluded area of the Bois de Boulogne. On page 58, he states that in 1870, the restaurant became one of the general quarters for the defense of Paris and that in 1912, it was reconstructed, probably referring to the same building. Also, in 1922, a special dinner was given in honour of the emperor Khaï-Dinh. Further research may provide more information on this specific building which seems to have since disappeared. Other views in this album, show the Café Meyer, the Café Restaurant Cardinal in Paris (one of the oldest of Paris) and other views of buildings and interiors of Paris.
