Project
AP075.S1.1989.PR04
Description:
Project series documents Cornelia Hahn Oberlander's landscape project for Ottawa City Hall, located on Sussex Drive, on Green Island, surrounded by Ottawa and Rideau Rivers, in Ottawa, Ontario. Oberlander worked on this project in 1989-1994 with architect Moshe Safdie. The old City Hall, a heritage building, was retained, and the new landscape design had to include the old structures. Oberlander landscape concept was to create a park-like space used for strolling as well as public functions. She also designed a courtyard with water features, including a pool, trees and flowers. The project also included a play area for the day care centre of the City Hall. The project was completed in 1994. The project series comprises sketches, design development drawings, such as grading plans, landscape plans, sections, elevations and details for the play area, working drawings, including site grading plans, and presentation drawings. The project is also documented through concept notes by Oberlander, specifications, correspondence, including with architects, clients, and consultants, financial documents and photographs of the construction.

Design for a city-park gate
DR1981:0034
Description:
- A rendered elevation (and a plan in the upper left corner) of a city-park gate comprised of a monumental central arch and lower lateral wings with fountains. The style of the architecture is Neo-Baroque. Set in a monochrome, wash-rendered park landscape with a vignette of an 18th-century horse-and-carriage in the left foreground, the line drawing of the gate is competent, although the shadow projections are incorrectly drawn.

Description:
The project series documents Abalos & Herreros’ entry for an open competition for the national library José Vasconcelos, Mexico city, Mexico. The firm identified this project as number 170. “The central library is a county’s visible deposit for its culture, a legacy to the future; contemplating al [sic] periods of a culture in a holistic and integrated way crosses historic earas [sic] and puts human memory in relation to geological time, a substrate which shelters and protects human life. [The] library will establish this dialogue by anchoring in the site, the city and the country by basic gesture putting the geologic substrate, the lagoon and the volcanos which construct and nourish the earth as a relief. A lagoon perforated by seven craters composes the germlike landscape which starts the projects, giving us a first drawing which transforms the space almost into a lake of waterlilies.” (ARCH270975) Documenting the project are conceptual drawings, competition documents, resumes, correspondence and a map.
