Description:
This project series documents the Laboratório Showroom Habitação Dimensione Fuoco in San Donà di Piave, Italy. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 39/90. The office assigned the date 1993 to this project. The firm Dimensione Fuoco Vetroveneto commissioned Siza to design the extension of a building. The design proposed by Siza was a 3000 square metre triangular building, connecting with the existing structure with a courtyard and a boundary wall. It was intended that the cultural organization Circolo Architteture would occupy the space. The program included spaces for architectural conferences and exhibitions, a library and archives. Siza was also supposed to design a sculpture in the park near the building. It is not clear if the project was realized. Documenting this project are sketches, studies, design development drawings and working drawings. Textual materials include project documentation and correspondence. Photographic materials document the models, project site and construction work.

This project series document the Biblioteca da Câmara Municipal de Viana do Castelo in Viana do Castelo, Portugal. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 11/00. The office assigned the dates 2000-2008 to this project. The project site is located between the Alameda 5 de Outubro and the Lima river. The library was part of the waterfront development plan, directed by Fernando Távora. The development plan included a multiuse pavilion designed by Eduardo Souto de Moura, two office buildings, and an auditorium designed by Tàvora. The architects, with the help of José Bernardo Tavora and Adalberto Dias chose together location. The orthogonal two-story library respects the recommendations of the Portuguese Institute of Book and Libraries (IPLB). This project was realized and won the National Contemporary Architecture Award. Documenting this project are sketches, studies, plans, working drawings, technical drawings, and details. Textual material includes correspondence and project documentation. Description:
This project series documents the Complexo Desportivo "Ribera - Serrallo" in Cornellà de Llobregat near Barcelona, Spain. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 3/00. The office assigned the date 2000 for this project. The sports complex consisted of a multipurpose pavilion, an aquatic centre and gymnasiums. The building also included a foyer, restaurant, terrace, and a VIP area. Of particular interest was the small opening in the building that linked the exterior and interior pool, as well as the 62 circular pool skylights. The project was built and Siza was awarded the Secil prize in 2006 for this building. In 2010, a new customer request called for the creation of a game room and toy library. This is documented in the project series through a study model (see model ARCH281281). Documenting this project are sketches, studies, plans, working drawings, technical drawings and details. Textual materials include correspondence and project documentation. Photographic materials document construction work and the built project.

This project series documents the Vitra International project in Weil am Rhein, Germany. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 18/90. The office assigned the dates 1991-1994 to this project. The building included a factory, offices, and loading docks. The brick was chosen as a reference to the production hall that burned down in 1981 on the project site. The curved bridge roof that connected Siza's building to Nicholas Grimshaw's building was conceived to not obstruct the view of Zaha Hadid's Fire Station. Siza also designed a 500 metre promenade that passed by the Vitra building and connected the Fire Station to the VitraHaus designed by Herzog & de Meuron. The project was realized. Documenting this project are sketches, studies, design development drawings, plans and details. Textual material includes project documentation and correspondence. Phun City
AP144.S2.D77
Description:
File documents the executed project for Phun City, a "temporary city" for an outdoor pop music festival at Ecclesden Commons in Sussex, England. Cedric Price was commissioned to coordinate the design and construction of the site, which was to include a stage, tower, cinema, theatre, administration and medical buildings, movable sleeping structures, public toilets, fencing, crash barriers and access roads. Drawings illustrate the development of the functional relationships among activities, as well as, access to, and circulation within, the concert site. A site plan shows the broader context of Ecclesden Commons; keyed diagrammatic plans locate main activity enclosures, pedestrian and vehicular access routes, proposed parking, emergency routes to and from the site, and wire and chain link barriers and fences. A diagrammatic site plan shows the final layout, including last minute alterations prior to the opening of the concert. A second site plan has been marked up with notes indicating how the spectators appropriated the site during the concert, moving some of the portable buildings and circulating in patterns that were different than those anticipated by Price. The client for Phun City Festival, Mick Farren was involved at the Isle of Wright Festival which was held one month later (Price with Murray 1971, 40). Some material in this file was published in "Cedric Price Supplement No. 2", 'Architectural Design', vol. 41, (January 1971), 40, and 'Cedric Price-Works II' (London: Architectural Press, 1984), 18, 30. Material in this file was produced between 1970 and 1971. File contains design development drawings, map, photographic materials, and textual records.

Description:
File documents an unsuccessful competition entry for the River Clyde Study & Ideas Competition, organised by the City of Glasgow, Scotland, for the rehabilitation of sections of the river bank. Cedric Price's entry proposed the conversion of existing coal yards and abandoned docks with a "metropolitan farm" including a food-growing complex, fish and hydroponic farms, and marketing facilities, along with a new public river transportation system. An existing conditions survey and a map show the docks and areas along the River Clyde. Design development drawings of diagrams and charts explore the various activities and the accommodation of each activity within the design limitations associated with it. Components of the plan are organized by activity type, location, and the amount of time required per activity. The activities shown include shopping, observation, gardening, employment, sports, and retraining. Other components of the plan are shown in detail: housing, the city farm, research center, a ferry and ferry stop, and a floating jungle. A diagram plots the travel time from the project area to various locations within Glascow. A public survey card monitors the project. One plan compares the size of this project site with other sites including that of Abu Dhabi Breakwater (AP144.S2.D94). Reprographic copies show regional relevance, and explore "test-bed" areas for activities such as forestry and agriculture. Some material in this file was published in 'Cedric Price-Works II' (London: Architectural Press, 1984), 36, 39. Material in this file was produced between 1973 and1988, but predominantly in 1973. File contains conceptual drawings, design development drawings, cartographic materials, and textual records.

Description:
This series documents the architectural projects of Ábalos&Herreros from 1986 to 2006 and represents over 150 projects, including exhibitions. The firm worked on a wide variety of projects from commercial and residential structures to libraries and sewage treatment plants. The firm's design process was research oriented and involved conversations between Ábalos and Herreros, office collaborators, artists who partook in the projects, as well as other architects. Several projects found in this series were developed in collaboration with other architects including: José Manuel Ábalos; Salvador Pérez Arroyo; Filippo Costi; Ángel Jaramillo Esteban; Javier Fresneda; Eduardo Horta; Martín Marciano; Ángel Jaramillo Sánchez; Renata Sentkiewicz; and Héctor Vigliecca. Most projects were designed for the city of Madrid and the Community of Madrid. Projects were also developed for other sites in Spain, including the Canary Islands, as well as for sites in Portugal, Germany, the United States, and Brazil. Ábalos & Herreros often created new projects from the firm's existing work. The firm also identified their projects numerically. These identification numbers are documented at the project series level for each project. Among the materials documenting the firm's projects are conceptual, design development, presentation, and working drawings, as well as panels. There are also several CAD drawings and prints of born digital drawings. Documenting the firms conceptual process are collages and photomontages. Photographic materials included in this series depict project sites and built projects. Also included are a variety of research reference materials, correspondence, project documentation, and project submissions. Although creating models was not a common practice for the firm, there are a few project series which include models.
