The project series documents "Achipensierio" a series of installations designed by Pettena from 2001 to 2018. The installation consists of variations of a building frame either made of metal beams or trellis covered in plants or straw. The building frame is designed to change form and appears deconstructed depending on the point of view. "Described by Gianni Pettena as “a contemporary Stonehenge,” but also as “a lesson in spatial perception,” this work metaphorically reaffirms the idea that there are no longer any frontiers today, when one is referring to themes relating to physical space, between the sensibility of the architect and that of the environmental artist." The main focus of the design was its relationship to the four courtyards, including a central courtyard at the building's centre that had bleachers overlooking it from above. Areas for a gym, bomb shelter and student government were also included. This was not the winning competition entry and the project was eventually realized by Cravit Ortved Architects. The project is recorded through drawings, presentation paintings, an aerial photograph and model dating from around 1993. Description:
This series documents the architectural projects of Ábalos&Herreros from 1986 to 2006 and represents over 150 projects, including exhibitions. The firm worked on a wide variety of projects from commercial and residential structures to libraries and sewage treatment plants. The firm's design process was research oriented and involved conversations between Ábalos and Herreros, office collaborators, artists who partook in the projects, as well as other architects. Several projects found in this series were developed in collaboration with other architects including: José Manuel Ábalos; Salvador Pérez Arroyo; Filippo Costi; Ángel Jaramillo Esteban; Javier Fresneda; Eduardo Horta; Martín Marciano; Ángel Jaramillo Sánchez; Renata Sentkiewicz; and Héctor Vigliecca. Most projects were designed for the city of Madrid and the Community of Madrid. Projects were also developed for other sites in Spain, including the Canary Islands, as well as for sites in Portugal, Germany, the United States, and Brazil.
