Projet
CI005.S1.1936.PR3
Description:
Construction for the transatlantic ocean liner, S.S. Nieuw Amsterdam – an initiative of the Holland-America Line – began in 1936 and was completed by May 1938. After the death of a leading figure of the Brinkman & Van der Vlugt architectural firm, the director of the Holland-American Line contracted the interior design to several architects, each working in partnership with artists. Oud was responsible for designing the First Class Swimming Pool and Second Class Tourist Lounge and Smoking Room. Oud outfitted the Second Class lounge with a rug, wooden furniture and a parquet dance floor; at one end of the room he set a stage, grand piano, and projection booth. The Smoking Room featured cork floors, panelled walls and a long reading table. The Smoking Room featured club chairs in brown leather and wooden chairs (Taverne et al. 2001, 389-392). Project series includes plans for the Tourist Lounge, and photographs of its interior.

AP207.S1.1973.PR04
Description:
The project series documents "Progetto D'Architettura n. 5" a three fold performance carried out at the Milan Triennale in 1973. The first group performing were two musicians, one accordionist, Davide Mosconi, and one cellist, Marino Vismara, playing while walking around the large entrance at the bottom of the grand staircase of the Triennale building. The performers constantly bumped into each other as they tried to get the upper hand on the other. At the same time, a 'fire eater', Nunzio Salvago, spat out flames in the staircase. Finally, on the second floor at the end of the stairs, Pettena, using vibraphone mallets, hit the ceramic tiles of the entrance walls off of which the sound was amplified by contact with microphones installed beforehand. The performance was thought of as "an operation of the “reading” of physical space, of occupation of the whole of the environment, realized through sound [...]." The project series contains video recordings and photographs of the performance. Projet
AP056.S1.1993.PR08
Description:
This project series documents a competition entry for the University of Waterloo Student Centre in Waterloo, Ontario in 1993. The project number assigned by the office is unidentifiable. This project proposed a two-storey building composed of rectangular spaces, a round central rotunda, four courtyards and terraces on the roof and sides. The building's exterior would be clad in split-faced limestone with a copper roof, wood doors and windows, and glazed walls comprising the top floor of the rotunda. Inside the rotunda would be cafe seating and information areas on the main floor and more casual reading and lounging spaces on the second level which were open to below. The main focus of the design was its relationship to the four courtyards, including a central courtyard at the building's centre that had bleachers overlooking it from above. Areas for a gym, bomb shelter and student government were also included. This was not the winning competition entry and the project was eventually realized by Cravit Ortved Architects. The project is recorded through drawings, presentation paintings, an aerial photograph and model dating from around 1993. The drawings are mostly originals of sketches, presentation drawings, plans, elevations and perspectives.
