AP075.S1.1969.PR01
Description:
Project series documents Cornelia Hahn Oberlander's landscape project for Acadia Park at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Oberlander worked on this project in 1969. The project consisted in design the landscape master plan and the play area for the Acadia Married Student Housing complex, which included in kindergarten. Oberlander preserved the forest edge of the site and even included some of the mature trees present on the site by suspending rope swings to their trunks. The play area also reused ancient trees as play structures, and a wobble walk made of logs ends of various heights. The project series contains design development drawings, including a proposed landscape master plan and landscape plans, and also working drawings, such as elevations and details of the playground structures and benches. The project is also documented through photographs of the playground and correspondence with clients. Source: [1] Herrington, Susan. Description:
File documents Cedric Price's participation in the design charette organized by the School of Architecture at Rice University, for Design Fete IV (4 June 1967 - 16 June 1967), in Houston, Texas. Six teams, each composed of one professional architect and six architecture students, were given a hypothetical location and program for a new town along with its educational needs and asked to create an 'educationally integrated' community. The results were published by Rice University in 'New Schools for New Towns'. File contains conceptual sketches showing plans for self-pace learning, intensive learning, large volume social activities, variable volume social activities, and commercial activities. Other drawings show links between diverse activity elements and illustrate a communications network with a central 'town brain'. Material in this group includes network analysis diagrams, diagrammatic plans showing activity nodes, and charts depicting design components ('kit of parts'). Some material in this file was published in: "Total Learning Environment with a Kit of Parts", 'Progressive Architecture' (April 1968), 208-210; 'Cedric Price-Works II' (London: Architectural Press, 1984), 18, 26-29; "Atom: Design for New Learning for a New Town", 'Architectural Design' (May 1968), 232-235. Material in this file was produced between 1967 and 1968. Charles Colbert, Paul Kennon, Niklaus Morganthaler, Robert Venturi and Thomas Vreeland appear as professional participants in the design charette. William Cannady appears as the director of Rice University's Design Fete IV. File contains conceptual drawings and textual records.

Projet
AP018.S1.1972.PR05
Description:
This project series documents the offices of law firm Davies, Ward and Beck in Toronto from 1972-1973. The office identified the project number as 7205. This project consisted of the design of the 47th floor of Commerce Court, some of which was to be used by the law firm, while the rest would be rented to subtenants. This was the first in a series of projects for this office, with several changes to occur in the subsequent decade. The planning for these future projects was already underway when this one began. This original project included 25 offices for lawyers, with the partners occupying corner offices, board and conference rooms, secretary and student offices, a library, a lunch room, a switchboard room and other work areas. The project is recorded through drawings and textual records dating from 1971-1976. The drawings are mostly reprographic copies that include plans, details and mechanical and electrical drawings. The textual materials include correspondence, certificates of payment, conference reports and change orders. Box AP018.S1.1972.PR05.003 contains an index to the textual records, which was created by the office.
