Series consists of reference documentation in the form of portfolios of selected materials from various OCEAN North projects. It is likely that Kivi Sotamaa did not contribute to all of the included projects. For the most part, records are images of work done with CAD software: preliminary drawings; fully developed plans and renderings of buildings; landscapes; and installations. Images also include digitized photographs of models and installations. Content from AP198.S2.001 – OCEAN North Portfolio 1999 consists primarily of this type of visual material and is organized per project. Additionally, a few textual records describe some of the projects. There are two versions of a general presentation document in Pagemaker. The project series documents the 1983 design entry for the Kulturforum. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 21/80. The office assigned the date 1983 for this project. This project was a competition entry for the International Architectural Exhibition Berlin competition (International Bauaustellung, IBA, circa 1979-1987), an urban renewal strategy for West Berlin, Germany. Siza also submitted five other entries to the IBA: Görtlitzer Bad swimming pool; Block 70 and 89 (Fränkelufer residential complex); Bonjour Tristesse (Block 121); Block 11-12; and Monument to Gestapo victims. The Kulturforum was a complex of cultural buildings. The site underwent many changes during Nazi Germany and post-war with the construction of the National Library of Staatsbibliothek, designed by Hans Scharoun. Two examples of features that the IBA asked participants to include in their design proposals were to exclude vehicle traffic between the library and national gallery, and to reinterpret the Forum space. Documenting this project are several sketches and studies. There are also plans, elevations, and axonometric drawings of site plans. Siza’s office has indicated on some of the studies that they were possibly not created by Siza. Where this is the case it has been noted with the physical material. Photographs and negatives document the competition site and model, and there are transparencies and slides of drawings. Also included is textual documentation on the competition site and a few letters from members of the Berlin Senate, two of which are from Brigitte Cassirer (later Brigitte Fleck).

The project series documents the competition entry and infrastructure development of the northeast coast park (Parque litoral nord-est, Barcelona Forum 2004, Sant Adrià de Besòs) and adjoining recycling plant (Edificio de oficinas y planta integral de RSU) in Santa Adriá de Besòs, Barcelona, Spain. The firm identified this project as number 133. The competition was organized by the Barcelona City Council and was part of a larger plan to develop new infrastructure for Barcelona, as the Host City for the International Forum of Cultures held in 2004. A number of architects and firms were involved in other projects related to the infrastructure plan, like the South East Coastal Park & Auditoriums by the Foreign Office Architects (See AP171.S1.2000.D6). The park included several other features, like the design of urban furniture (Pep and Xurret benches, and a fence), an artificial mountain, a youth hostel, a small security building and a pier. Only the park, the artificial mountain and the benches were built. The firm arranged work for this project with the following numbers: 133-1, 133-2, 133-6 to 133-8, and 133-10. The CCA did not receive materials classified under numbers 133-9 and 133-11. The recycling plant includes, among other things, office space, an ecomuseum, and a garden. Abalos and Herreros won the competition for design, construction and exploitation of the plant. The firm worked in collaboration with the firm Tersa, S.A. The firm assigned numbers 133-3 to 133-5 to identify this work. Documenting the project are design development and working drawings, correspondence, invoices, minutes, project descriptions, studies, budgets, contracts, reference, photographic and digital materials, and a videocassette.

Among the sketches for projects are also general sketches of his travels, people, animals, objects, furniture, and at times landscapes. Most sketchbooks primarily contain sketches for projects with intermingled sketches of people or faces, however there are a number of sketchbooks that mostly contain sketches of people. The Siza fonds is being processed in four phases. Up to date the sketchbooks that have been processed are ones that relate to architectural projects that were processed in the first and second phase of processing. Materials after 1971, from the firm Parkin Architects Planners, are much more complete and often contain drawings from initial sketches to finished construction work. Among these drawings are plans, elevations, sections, details, perspectives, and mechanical, electrical and structural drawings. Textual records for these projects typically include correspondence, meeting minutes, specifications, site reports, consultancy files and other construction documentation. The artefacts typically consist of material samples for construction.
