Résumé:
"Architecture of the real" is a book about both architectural design and photography. Architectural design because it focuses on the work of twelve practices and turns a critical eye on contemporary French production. Photography because it presents atypical images made by photographers who are active in contemporary art, and who propose a new realist view of archtiecture - since the buildings are photographed in their inhabited state and everyday context.

Résumé:
Ecological crisis has driven contemporary artists to engage with waste in its most non-biodegradable forms: plastics, e-waste, toxic waste, garbage hermetically sealed in landfills. In this provocative and original book, Amanda Boetzkes links the increasing visualization of waste in contemporary art to the rise of the global oil economy and the emergence of ecological thinking. Often, when art is analyzed in relation to the political, scientific, or ecological climate, it is considered merely illustrative. Boetzkes argues that art is constitutive of an ecological consciousness, not simply an extension of it. The visual culture of waste is central to the study of the ecological condition.

Résumé:
The Institute of Contemporary Art, designed by Diller + Scofidio (now Diller Scofidio + Renfro), was the first new art museum to be built in Boston in a century. Opened in December 2006, the ICA is located on a small parcel of land on Boston Harbor and this is the 25th location for the museum in its 75 year history and its first, permanent, free-standing home. “The ICA's decision to hire Diller + Scofidio reflected our belief in the firm's vision that architecture can shape as well as reflect contemporary experience,” stated Jill Medvedow, director of ICA. The architects balanced use of cool and transparent glass with the warmth of wood and the energy of light, as well as their design of spare, flexible spaces for presenting contemporary art, was a revelation for a city and an architectural community. ''Their brilliant and beautiful design of the ICA was a harbinger of change: edgy, bold and breathtaking, transforming the landscape for contemporary art and culture in Boston and for the artists, art and ideas of our time,” Medvedow has said.

What does a house need to become a home? This book provides answers to this question that are as varied as the people behind the projects presented on its pages. Singles, couples, and families; clients, architects, and suppliers?they all have their own ideas of what makes a modern home. While the featured buildings have a contemporary clarity, lightness, and openness in common, they differ greatly in their details. The spectrum of materials used includes wood, stone, metal, and glass. Colors range from bright to subdued; furnishings from glamorously elaborate to tastefully understated.

Résumé:
Collecting writings from artists, theorists and artist residency facilitators, “Contemporary Artist Residencies” examines the present role of the residency for artists and the international art ecosystem. With a range of discussions on the continuously evolving role of residencies in our political and historical moment, the book also examines residencies’ varied attempts at “reclaiming time and space” for artistic practice while serving as nodes for collaboration, research, and critical thinking—not to mention a crucial and sought-after means of promoting artists’ career development and the international circulation of their work. The book features contributions by Pascal Gielen, Livia Alexander, Nathalie Anglès, Helmut Batista and Taru Elfving, among others. The latest of Valiz’s “Antennae” series of books designed by Metahaven, “Contemporary Artist Residencies” helps to fill the surprising gap in books about how and why residencies function in today’s art world.
