Description:
This project series documents the Cais de embarque para european architects in Salonica, Greece. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 75/90. The office assigned the date 1996 for this project In 1997, Thessaloniki was the host city for the event "Cultural Capital of Europe." An architectural initiative named "Provoking spatial episodes - On the coast" was created to celebrate the relationship between the sea and the city. Several architects were invited to design small piers on the coast. For Siza, the program criteria included the construction of a pier able to receive 250 people, debaring area for catamarans, house ticket dispensers, waiting room, press room and food stall. Documenting this project are sketches, studies, presentation drawings, and project documentation. Slides document the project model.

Abalos & Herreros were invited to participate in the competition organised by Consejería de Educación y Cultura (Council for Education and Culture), of the Comunidad de Autónoma de Madrid, and their entry won. The firm worked in collaboration with architect Ángel S. Jaramillo and artist Peter Halley. The firm identified this project as number 94. In 2003, this project was a finalist at the 7th edition of the Bienal de Arquitectua Española and received a mention at the 17th edition of the Premios de Urbanismo, Arquitectura y Obra Publica 2003 from the Madrid City Council. Documenting the project are design development and working drawings, correspondence, notes, project descriptions, studies, specifications, photographic materials and a model.

This project series documents the design proposal for Monumento aos Calafates in Foz Douro, Porto, Portugal. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 11/50. The office assigned the date 1959 to this project. Siza, Alcino Soutinho, Augusto Amaral, and the sculptor Lagoa Henriques developed this project for an open competition for the Delegação do Porto da Comissão das Comemorações do V Centenário do Infante D. Henrique in colaboration with the Escola de Belas Artes do Porto. The project was exhibited at the I Exposição Extra-escolar dos Alunos da ESBAP in 1959. The project won first prize but was not built. Documenting this project are a small number of sketches. Also included are photographic materials of the model and project site as well as a slide of a drawing.
