Description:
This project series documents the Piscina de Marés in Leça da Palmeira, Matosinhos, Portugal. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 9/60. The office assigned the date 1961. Piscina de Marés was built between 1961 and 1966. The project included two salt water pools, one for adults and another for children, and changing rooms. A restaurant was later added in 1965. The pools were embedded in rock formations situated on the northern coastline of the Atlantic Ocean in Matosinhos. Siza used concrete to build the pools and walls while preserving some of the rock formation. There was also restoration work done for both the pools and the restaurant in the mid 1990s. The project series includes sketches, elevations, plans, and details, as well as correspondence and project documentation. Photographic materials document the project site, the built project, the model, and drawings. Also included are panoramas of the built project and aerial views of the project site. Note that photographic materials related to the 1995 renovation are also found among these materials, however the rest of the materials related to the renovations are in subseries Recuperação da Piscina de Marés (AP178.S1.1995.PR01).

Description:
Project series documents Cornelia Hahn Oberlander's landscape project for a therapeutic roof garden for the Vancouver General Hospital, Burns and Plastics Unit, in Vancouver. Oberlander worked on this project from 2000 to 2002. The project consisted in a participatory design of a concrete roof terrace with the use of aluminium planters and trellises fabricated by the German firm Benz & Fischer. Oberlander worked with students of the University of British Columbia who made the design studies and documented the site features, including sun and shadow patterns, noises and wind direction. Shelagh Smith, a horticultural therapist, organized the participatory design process with patients, staff, visitors and volunteers from the hospital. Oberlander developed a planting plan with low maintenant plants, plants with different flowering periods to provide interest througout the seasons, and vines and clematis for the trellis to provide shade for the users of the terrace. The project series contains eight design development drawings, including two landscape drawings and planting plans. The project is also documented through concept notes by Oberlander, correspondence, including correspondence with client, contractors, consultants and suppliers, documents related to the plants selection, specifications, research material, press clipping on the project, and photographs of the completed roof terrace.

Description:
This project series documents alterations to Tudhope Studios located at 284 King Street East in Toronto from 1987-1988. The office identified the project number as 18733. This project, headed by Marianne McKenna, consisted of alterations to the interiors and exterior of a two-storey building, originally constructed in 1947. The building, owned by design firm Tudhope Associates Inc., had approximately 12,758 square feet of space, 19 of which were added on the second floor during the alterations. The building's lower floor was used as a wholesale area, the first floor as offices, and the third floor as design studios and workshops. The interiors used a mix of carpeting, vinyl tiles, epoxy terrazzo and unfinished concrete for the floors. The interior walls were largely painted gypsum board while the exterior facade was masonry and stucco. The project also included the design and construction of furnishings inside the offices, such as signs, lighting fixtures, desks and the boardroom table. The project is recorded through drawings and a photograph of the finished exterior dating from 1987-1988. The drawings are mostly originals and include sketches, plans, elevations, sections, details, perspectives, axonometric and furnishing drawings for design and construction. The detail drawings are for the site, exterior, schedules, interiors, stairs and millwork.

Description:
This project series documents the Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana, India from 1963-1968. With Prakash as the senior architect, this project consisted of the design of the entire campus, including the boys' hostel and mess, and the Agricultural Engineering College (AEC). Under this project, Prakash also designed campuses for the University in Hisar and Palampur. The boys' hostel, constructed first, consisted of a long, rectangular volume of exposed brick and concrete columns. Balconies lined its exterior, alternating on each floor so that every balcony had a view of the sky above. A covered walkway connected the hostel to the square mess, which was turned 45 degrees on its axis. The AEC, the campus's main building, was a long, single-storey building with a series of enclosed courtyards. Round exhaust openings were the only element that marked the building's façade. Prakash, developing his love of sculpture at this time, also crafted a large outdoor sculpture for the campus's main courtyard.[1] This project is recorded through a reprographic copy of a plan of the boys' hostel dating from around 1963.
