In this panel discussion chaired by Samia Henni (Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture, McGill), Albert Ferré presents the CCA’s Centring Africa project and the CCA c/o Dakar initiative alongside presentations by Omar Degan (Kendall College of Art and Design, Ferris State University; founder and inaugural curator of the Pan-African Biennale) and Qianye Yu (Department of Architecture, Cornell University), with a response by Menna Agha (Architecture Action Lab, Carleton University).
The panel opens a two-day multidisciplinary symposium Space in African Studies aimed at discussing models of spatial research and the role that built, destroyed, and immaterial environments play in shaping African societies, cultures, and territories. The symposium is convened by Samia Henni (Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture), Khalid Medani (Chair of African Studies Program, Department of Political Science, The Institute of Islamic Studies), Pedro Monaville (Department of History and Classical Studies), and Ayodeji Ogunnaike (School of Religious Studies).
