Description:
- This album consists mainly of elevations, sections and plans for a number of domestic commissions by Charles Rohault de Fleury: a house in Cologne, a hothouse for M. Faquet-Lemaitre, two [?] apartment houses and three private houses in Paris, a house for Mme de Lescure, Royan, and the Administration générale des omnibus office building, Paris. Both the drawings for the house in Cologne and the three variant projects for a hothouse are probably presentation drawings. There are contract drawings, probably the architect's copies, for apartment houses for M. Piet and M. Le Comte, and houses for M. Moreau Chaslon, Mme la comtesse de Lubersac, Mme de Lescure and M. Waresquiel. A sheet of cost calculations attached to a preliminary site plan, are probably for M. Waresquiel's house. The first plan for Mme la comtesse de Lubersac's house (DR1974:0002:002:084), and the plans for M. Waresquiel's house are annotated with the functions of the rooms. The architect's copies of the drawings for the country house in Royan, given to the client by the architect, include drawings of the foundations and framework, larger scale elevational and sectional details of the architectural elements, profiles and joinery details. The function within the design process of the prints for the commercial building for the Administration Générale de Omnibus is unclear. The principal elevation (DR1974:0002:002:020) is rendered in watercolour, suggesting it may be a presentation print. The other prints for this building exhibit the same degree of finish as the contract drawings in this album, but the absence of the client's and contractor's signatures and the revision attached to DR1974:0002:002:022 suggests they may be part of the design development stage of the project. Also included in the album is a sheet of preliminary sketches for a tomb for Daguerre (not the photographer) and two small unbound sheets of sketches for unidentified projects (DR1974:0002:002:048 and DR1974:0002:002:028).

- This album consists mostly of preliminary, design development and presentation drawings - plans, sections and elevations - for a château for M. de Lorgeril at Motte Beaumanoir, Brittany, and for renovations for a house for M. le Dhuy, perhaps in Paris. These buildings are in an austere classical style with minimal ornament and in some cases, Doric columns. Structural drawings, details of architectural elements, and coloured elevations for the Empire style interiors are included for both projects, as well as drawings for Empire style furniture for M. le Dhuy. A perspective and plan for a sepulchral chapel for the de Lorgeril family (DR1974:0002:007:030) are also included. The album contains several documents: notes by Rohault de Fleury, mostly illegible, which probably concern project(s) for M. de Lorgeril; detailed cost estimates for two country houses and a pavilion, possibly variant schemes for a single project; and letters to Hubert Rohault de Fleury from M. de Lorgeril concerning plans by the latter for an apartment house in Rennes (rue de la Poissonière and rue Beaumanoir) which he sent to Rohault de Fleury for his criticism and correction. M. de Lorgeril also sought Rohault de Fleury's advice on the municipal affairs of Rennes. There are five unidentified drawings, possibly for a hôtel for the de Lorgeril family in Rennes (DR1974:0002:007:037 - DR1974:0002:007:036). Four drawings for an unidentified country house may possibly be for a project of 1811 for a M. des Dederseul (name only partially legible), if the inscriptions on the page preceding them in the album are related to these drawings (DR1974:0002:007:037 - DR1974:0002:007:040). Also included in the album is a lot plan, inscribed with the names fo the owners, for property adjacent to rue de la Chaussée d'Antin, Paris (DR1974:0002:007:048).

- Group DR1994:0011:001 R/V - DR1994:0011:030 includes three sketches (DR1994:0011:001 R/V - DR1994:0011:002 R/V and DR1994:0011:030), 24 pages of notes (DR1994:0011:003 - DR1994:0011:026), two sketchbooks (DR1994:0011:027:001-035 and DR1994:0011:028:001-008 R/V), and the envelope in which these materials were housed at acquisition (DR1994:0011:029). The sketches are for various subjects including I-beams (DR1994:0011:001 R/V), a column-to-beam connection and an unidentified building (DR1994:0011:002 R/V), and a sketch plan of Mies' 1928-1929 design for the Friedrichstrasse office building in Berlin (DR1994:0011:030). Notes DR1994:0011:003 - DR1994:0011:024 are written in German and are generally illegible. Many changes have been made to the notes, and some sheets appear to have been reordered or struck out. Some of the notes may be about urban planning. The number in the upper left corner of sheets DR1994:0011:010, DR1994:0011:012-016 and DR1994:0011:020-021 may indicate the order of the topics dealt with in the notes. Notes DR1994:0011:025 are illegible. Notes DR1994:0011:026 are written in English, and may be notes of a lecture. The notes in sketchbook DR1994:0011:027:001-035 are written in German, are generally illegible, and are usually written in point form or sometimes as lists. Chicago is mentioned on several of the sheets. There is a shift in the clarity of the handwriting halfway through the sketchbook and some of the notes in the latter half may relate to Mies' readings of philosophy. Some of the notes in sketchbook DR1994:0028:001-008 R/V are written in German and some in English. The first and second pages of the sketchbook describe measurements for addresses on the campus of IIT, as well as for the Power Plant. The last three pages of the sketchbook discuss the architectural education programm at IIT and an exhibition of student work.
