The City of London has inspired many artists throughout the last three hundred years and continues to do so. Nearly all these artists, Canaletto in particular, have paid tribute to the genius of Sir Christopher Wren, whose St. Paul's dominates the cityscape. Canaletto's influence can be traced for more than a generation, but in the nineteenth century one can diagnose the Romantic movement, while in Cruikshank and Doré we feel a certain pride in London's tremendous vitality and growth.
