The picturesque, old adobe houses so characteristic of New Mexico are rapidly disappearing, even though they are a unique historic heritage. For the first time, a detailed architectural study of a series of these old structures is available in book form. This volume contains ground plans, drawings of numerous details, and photographs of twelve buildings near Taos. The accompanying text describes the merging of Spanish Colonial and Spanish architectural traditions in New Mexico, and it places each house recorded in the volume in its proper position in New Mexico history.
