Résumé:

American architect Robert Stern studied at Columbia and Yale. In 1966, he set up Stern & Hagmann with John Hagmann, later renamed Robert A.M. Stern Architects when the two went their separate ways. A traditional architect, his work ranges from private houses to academic, cultural and commercial. He returned to Yale as Dean of the architecture school in 1998. In this talk, Stern leads a tour of his career. He charts his early years revitalising the Architectural League of New York under Philip Johnson, and working for local government to try to improve housing quality in the city. He describes the growth of his practice, taking over Johnson's Boylston Street project in Boston in the wake of controversy and how he secured the deanship at Yale.
