"Why do so many women graphic designers remain invisible? How is the present connected to its past? In seeking answers to these questions, UN/SEEN turns to the very beginnings of graphic design in Germany and examines the period leading up to the Bauhaus. Drawing on numerous previously unknown examples spanning the fields of book design, poster design, typography, illustration, and packaging, UN/SEEN reveals just how successful and self-assured this first generation of women graphic designers was. UN/SEEN also makes the anonymous work of women in the applied arts and the printing industries visible for the first time.
