This title covers important Western artists from the 13th to the 20th centuries. In the first volume each entry begins with a brief digest of the artist's life, collections of their work, and a list of writings both by and about the artist. Last comes an essay which discusses historical and critical aspects of their art, such as the artist's style, development, importance and relationship to other artists and movements.
