The research that originated the present book is aimed at covering a historiography referential gap of a popular architectural typology of Buenos Aires in the 20th century: the more than 300 existing movie theaters built in the port city between 1896 and 2010. The book documents the architecture evolution and diversity of the local classic movie theaters (those inside shopping malls or with more than one screen were not considered), their history and the associations between producers, movie theater managers / owners, (painting, mural and sculpture) artists, architects and the port city "moviegoers". The main objective of the research initiated in 2002 was more than referential, the authors hoped that the book becomes a wake-up call in recuperating the social summon capacity of these entertainment spaces towards their transformation into a more active players in the city's cultural life.
