A series of research seminars exploring links between sacred texts and sacred spaces grew into a conference in Cardiff, Wales, then into this volume of 14 essays covering the Medieval sacred, re-writing sacred space in the early modern period, and sacred text and sacred space in the 19th century. The topics discussed include iconographies of text and the construction of sacred space in Medieval church wall painting, the Imitatio Francisci of Margery Kempe, sacred space in Laudian England, Henry Vaughan's church in the wilderness, Wordsworth's sources of the abbey-meditation tradition in the 18th century, church and chapel architecture in Victorian Britain, and whether the modern world is disenchanted.
