"The dome gets taller and taller, one balustrade spans the next--yet this spectacular tower was never built; it is merely the result of the collage technique applied by the South Korean artist Won Beomsik (*1972): the series initially begun in London assembles and combines details from photographs of buildings by a variety of architects. A deconstruction of the urban landscape that allows new arrangements and connotations, and tells unexpected stories. Archisculpture plays with cultural conventions and blind spots: while Won's exaggerated, exotic tower pagoda seems realistic to the Western eye, we quickly detect the expressive artificiality of a bold construction consisting of a storefront with a Baroque dome. According to the artist, his fragile structures deliberately provoke alarm, a stab in the sense of a Barthesian punctum"--Page 4 of cover.
Hoch und immer höher wächst die Kuppel, eine Balustrade erstreckt sich über der nächsten doch dieser spektakuläre Turmbau fand nie statt, er ist allein das Ergebnis der Collagetechnik des südkoreanischen Künstlers Beomsik Won (*1972): Seine zunächst in London begonnene Serie sammelt und kombiniert Ausschnitte aus Fotografien von Bauten der verschiedensten Architekten. Eine Dekonstruktion der Stadtlandschaft vollzieht sich, die neue Arrangements und Konnotationen ermöglicht und unerwartete Geschichten erzählt. 'Archisculpture' spielt mit kulturellen Konventionen und blinden Flecken: Dem westlichen Auge erscheint Wons überspitzte exotische Turmpagode zwar noch realistisch, dagegen konstatieren wir rasch die aussagekräftige Künstlichkeit einer gewagten Konstruktion aus Ladenfassade mit Barockkuppel. Der Künstler provoziert eigenen Aussagen zufolge mit seinen fragilen Aufbauten ganz bewusst ein Erschrecken, einen Stich im Sinne eines barthesschen punctum.
