Projet
AP075.S1.1975.PR01
Description:
Project series documents Cornelia Hahn Oberlander's project for the grounds of the Museum of Anthropology located on the northern end of the University of British Columbia campus. Oberlander worked on this project from 1975-1976 with architect Arthur Erickson. The project was completed in 1976. Due to the location of museum on the Northwest Coast First Nations site, the building was designed to evoke a First Nations longhouse. Oberlander concept for the landscaping was inspired by the Northwest Coast First Nations culture. It initally included a reflecting pool to represent the coastal inlet and an ethnobotanically significant selection of plants. However some features from the original design, such as the reflecting pool and some of the indegenious planting, weren't realized until the mid-2000s. The shield the site from the noise of the busy NW Marine Drive, located next to the grounds, Oberlander included "a series of large mounds planted with Haida seed mix". [1] The project series contains reprographic copies of working drawings, including landscape plans, landscape sections and details, grading and irrigation plans, planting plans, and site plans. The project is also documented through textual records, including specification, correspondence with architects and clients, inspection reports, and some handwritten notes by Oberlander. The project series also comprises photographs of the museum site.

This series contains materials related to Conference of Architects for the Study of the Environment (CASE) meetings. Founded in the early 1960s, CASE was an organization of American East Coast architecture schools that sought to create a dialogue on the state of architecture with a focus on architectural practice and teaching. In 1964, Frampton participated in the first Princeton University CASE meeting, which is documented by the three tape reels in this series. Also included in this series are a program and invitations from Peter Eisenman for the CASE 8 meeting (1971) that was held at MoMA, New York. The invitations include a note with the names of who each invitation was sent to.

Description:
This project series documents the Plano de Expansão da Cidade de Macau (Areia P. e Porto E.) in Macau, China. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 16/80. The office assigned the date 1982 to this project. Macau is a Chinese-Portuguese peninsula near the Pear River Delta on the south coast of China. After 1950, the speedy industrial growth caused massive waves of immigration and created housing problems. Macau's governement wanted to reorganize the urban landscape in order to readapt the territory to the economic and political realities. Siza was hired by the P&T Group as part of a team of specialist-consultants to rethink the districts of Areia Preta and Porto Exterior. A first proposal was submitted in 1984. The proposed plans were accepted by the authorities years later, but never realized due to the construction of hotels and casinos instead of housing. Documenting this project are studies, plans and project site plans. Textual materials include project documentation and correspondence. Photographic materials document the models and project site. These materials date from 1981-2012.
