Images also include digitized photographs of models and installations. Content from AP198.S2.001 – OCEAN North Portfolio 1999 consists primarily of this type of visual material and is organized per project. Additionally, a few textual records describe some of the projects. There are two versions of a general presentation document in Pagemaker. Content from AP198.S2.002 – OCEAN North Press CD 2000 is organized into three sections: “about'OCEANnorth”, “OCEANnorth_Essays”, and “OCEANnorth_Projects”. This last directory is further organized by year and by project, each project having a text and an image sub-directory. Overall, there are 48 textual records describing the network, its vision and its projects, alongside more than 200 raster images. The Jyväskylä Music and Arts Centre competition entry was not included in this project selection. The firm identified this project as number 103. “The project is located in a typical bit of middle-class suburbia, in which low-density housing, wasteland, amenities and clumps of pine trees intermingle, giving form to the idea of an urban existence that is in contact with nature. [Abalos & Herreros] decided to be extremely direct and to stress this aspiration by using gardening techniques. In fact, the house as a whole can be understood as an example of a giant ars-topiaria, an idea that is not at odds with the fact that it will be lived in by a landscape architect. The sloping topography is taken advantage of to build a house that has continuity with the natural environment, avoiding differentiation between the house and the terrain: the whole house is garden and the whole garden is house. The project series documents the competition entry a plan of the Sagüés promenade, located at gates of Ulía park in San Sebastián, Spain. Abalos & Herreros and Renata Sentkiewicz drafted a study and proposal for the plan of the Sagüés promenade, located at gates of Ulía park in San Sebastián, Spain. The firm identified the project as number 165. The architects described their project as “[…] a place where […] [the urban and the natural] landscapes […] meet. Under a green roof a winter beach, thermal installations and the groundfloor [sic] of a hotel are combined. Five towers rise through this roof with different uses: hotel, social housing, and the ‘Gallery of Wonders’ […]. A passageway curls up around them, connecting the towers by an impactant [sic] skywalk […]” (ARCH270975). This project series documents the Plano de Expansão da Cidade de Macau (Areia P. e Porto E.) in Macau, China. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 16/80. The office assigned the date 1982 to this project. Macau is a Chinese-Portuguese peninsula near the Pear River Delta on the south coast of China. After 1950, the speedy industrial growth caused massive waves of immigration and created housing problems. Macau's governement wanted to reorganize the urban landscape in order to readapt the territory to the economic and political realities. Siza was hired by the P&T Group as part of a team of specialist-consultants to rethink the districts of Areia Preta and Porto Exterior. A first proposal was submitted in 1984. The proposed plans were accepted by the authorities years later, but never realized due to the construction of hotels and casinos instead of housing. Documenting this project are studies, plans and project site plans. Textual materials include project documentation and correspondence. Photographic materials document the models and project site. These materials date from 1981-2012.
