Scope and Content

Sub-series consists primarily of correspondence between Anne Alpert and her family, friends, husbands and lovers (Roberto Matta, Isamu Noguchi, Hollis Alpert, and James Astor), and children Gordon Matta-Clark and John Sebastian Matta. In some instances, both the letters that she sent as well as the letters she received are preserved; in particular, both sides of the correspondence with Isamu Noguchi have been reunited and reassembled. The material dates from 1914 to 1997.

Sub-series contains ring binders and textual records, including newspaper and magazine clippings and memorabilia.

    Description:

    Binder documents the birth and life of Gordon Matta-Clark and John Sebastian Matta, the twin sons of Roberto Matta and Anna Matta (later Anne Alpert), through correspondence, photographs and memorabilia dating from 1943 to 1965. The majority of the letters are addressed to "Anna Louise Matta" at her home in New York City, New York.
