Tillitarniit at CCA – Many Hands

Event, Park Baile, 14 July 2022 to 10 September 2022

Join us on Thursday nights this summer for free outdoor Inuit games, performances, and film screenings in the park as part of the third edition of the Tillitarniit festival.

Complementing the exhibition ᐊᖏᕐᕋᒧᑦ / Ruovttu Guvlui / Towards Home, this year’s edition of Tillitarniit is titled Many Hands and is curated by Inuk visual artist and filmmaker asinnajaq. The festival opens with the Montréal premiere of Akornatsinniittut Tarrata Nunaann (In The Land of Our Shadows), the first film in Marc Fussing Rosbach’s Among Us saga, and will conclude with the sequel, Akornatsinniittut Kilnappalik (The Masked Man).

Every second Thursday (or so) from 14 July until 10 September in Park Baile, watch stories about Inuit communities from Inuk artists and filmmakers. Each evening starts with games, then live performances, and culminates with open-air film screenings organized around themes from sci-fi to experimental and horror. Bring your own chairs (we’ll have cushions), blankets, and snacks.

Please note that, in case of rain, we’ll move indoors to the Theatre Paul-Desmarais.

A very special pre-festival evening takes place on June 18 at Casa del Popolo. Curated by asinnajaq, this performance will give a preview of the mix of genres you can expect to find this summer at Tillitarniit: a concert with Uyarakq, Charlotte Carleton will be introduced by a dance set combining traditional Inuit Throat Singing with contemporary dance and improvisation created by Simik and Mariam. The event will be part of Suoni per il popolo, an annual community festival dedicated to showcasing experimental music and sound forms.
