Blackpool Project
AP144.S2.D81
Description:
File documents the completed project for a restaurant at the Blackpool Zoo Park in Blackpool, England, for client J. Lyons & Co. Ltd. Initially the brief also called for the erection of five pre-fabricated Wimpy kiosks, of which at least one and possibly two kiosks were erected. The restaurant building is a square, clear-span, steel-frame building with its own kitchen and store rooms, and includes a cafeteria, a full service restaurant and bar, and offices. The restaurant dining room can be converted from one large space into two by means of a curtain on a track, removable barrier rails, and mobile cash and cutlery units. The exterior is timber-clad with tinted glazing. Existing conditions drawings show the existing site layout, landscaping plans and plans showing water supply and electrical services. Design development drawings and working drawings include preliminary interior perspectives, site plans, floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, utility plans, sections, elevations, axonometric views of interior, roof trusses, and structural system, construction details, and progress charts. Two sets of drawings that include plans, sections, and elevations, were possibly used for presentation purposes. Construction details are drawn on letter-size paper and show details for curtain tracks, exterior walls, and windows. A project schedule listing the remaining work is dated October 29, 1973. Consultant's drawings for catering, structural, mechanical, and electrical services are also included in the file. Over 300 detail drawings on letter-size paper are included in the textual records. Cedric Price visited the restaurant in 1988. Some material in this file was published in 'Cedric Price-Works II' (London: Architectural Press, 1984), 81. Some reference drawings are attributed to H. Carpenter, Engineer, County Borough of Blackpool, and to Building Design Partnership. Versa-Serve Ltd Catering Consultants, Briggs Amasco, Crittall-Hope, Archbell Greenwood Ltd Structural Engineers, Hall & Kay Limited, Campbell & Isherwood Ltd Electrical Engineers appear as consultants in this project. Bovis: Fee Construction Limited appears as the general contractor for this project. File contains design development drawings, presentation drawings, reference drawings, technical drawings, working drawings, photographic materials, and textual records.

Description:
File documents a contribution to an exhibition hosted by the Aedes Galerie in Berlin, Germany, entitled "Berlin - Denkmal oder Denkmodell?". Price's contribution is centred around the concept of four "Annual Portals", monumental (but disassemblable and movable) structures which are apparently meant to guide the long-term flow of citizens' urban activities as they live in and eventually leave the city. Material in this file was produced in 1979 and between 1987 and 1988, but predominantly in 1988. File contains conceptual drawings, presentation panels, models, photographic materials and textual records.

AP144.S2.D89
Description:
File documents a design programme undertaken for construction company, Sir Robert McAlpine & Sons Ltd., in London, England. The aim was to increase the efficiency of production and improve labour relations by producing enclosures, equipment, material, and information systems that would improve safety, on-site communication, and job satisfaction. Cedric Price's office produced 2 report volumes, a Portable Enclosures Programme (PEP) and used at least one construction site, at Angel Court, as a test site for the proposals. Diagrams and flow charts show preliminary planning and programming design decisions and show the relationship between present and future factors. A flow chart illustrates the scope of the program. Charts and diagrams map the relative time scale of parts of the programme over various development phases. An axonometric and cutaway drawing show the interior construction of a pedestrian walkway. Data showing both the projected and real results of a site test application of McAppy planning and equipment from 1974 to 1975 was collected and presented as a broadside. A large number of original drawings are included within the textual records. Material in this file was produced between 1955 and 1987. Zisman, Bowyer & Partners provided consultation services. File contains design development drawings, model, photographic materials, presentation drawings, and textual records.

AP144.S2.D107
Description:
File documents a consultancy project for the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, for site planning and phased improvements for the campus. The project delineates zones for landscaping, pedestrian and vehicular circulation patterns, passive and active recreation areas, and building types. A plan showing existing conditions also shows new construction and a phasing scheme. This plan has a plastic overlay and is mounted on a panel of press board, and was possibly used for presentation purposes. Existing conditions material includes panoramas of the campus (montages of photographs), and existing plans of the campus and surrounding area. Conceptual sketches are drawn on top of photocopied photographs of the campus in coloured crayon, and are annotated with notes by Price which address the landscaping and walkway embellishments intended to enhance the experience of circulating between buildings. Material in this file was produced in 1980. File contains conceptual drawings, design development drawings, reference drawings, a panel, photographic materials, and textual records.
